GREER: Roy Oliver John Greer, August 22nd, 1929-July 14th, 2018. It is with great sorrow that we announce that Roy Greer passed away peacefully on July 14th at Riverdale District Health Centre at the age of 88. Roy lived all his life in the Moline District farming for over 70 years until retiring to River in 2017. He attended Poplar Grove Elementary School and took his high schooling in Cardale. Roy married Lorna Anderson July 17th, 1954 and they raised 5 children. They were involved with their children’s school, sports, 4-H and pipe band activities. Roy and Lorna farmed the home far raising grain and spending many years in the cattle business. Roy was proud of his full blood and purebred simmental herd and enjoyed showing them at local fairs. He was a community and environment concerned person belong to many organizations, boards and committees to promote education, conservation and awareness. He was instrumental in forming the Little Saskatchewan River Conservation district and a very active promoter of the (ALUS) Alternate Land Use Services Project. Roy served as a councillor and sat on related committees for the Rural Municipality of Blanchard for 3 decades. He was interested in history and antiques, so served on Clack Museum board. He was an active board representative for Rolling Dale Enterprises for over 4 decades and saw many improvements in that time. Roy and Lorna devoted 30 years providing a foster care home for several challenged persons. While living in Rivers Roy he enjoyed reading library books and playing cribbage. He always said he was blessed with great family, friends and his way of life. Roy leaves to mourn his wife Lorna of nearly 64 years, daughter Cheryl (Chris) Plaseski, daughter Judy (Bob) Tidlund, son Doug Greer (Wanda), daughter Dawn Burt (Clayton) and son Mark Greer (Melissa). Grandchildren Stacie Tidlund, Caylie (Bob) Wincheruk and 2 children Brynley and Harrison, Jared Tidlund, Cody Plaseski (Jade), Shane Burt and Keegan Burt. Predeceased was grandson Cole Plaseski and son-in-law Doug Burt. We wish to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the River ambulance attendants, doctors, nurses and staff in Brandon Regional Health Centre and Palliative Care. The care Roy received and consideration shown to family at River Palliative Care Unit was exemplary and so much appreciated. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Little Saskatchewan River Conservation District or River and District Palliative Care Unit or charity of one’s choice.
