MOONEY: Hearts were saddened by the sudden passing of Kenneth (Ken) George Mooney. He passed away at the home of Carley Friesen (Julie’s daughter) while visiting in Hythe, Alberta, on September 21, 2018. Ken was born on November 6, 1951, son of Robert (Bob) and Flora Mooney (nee Vane). Ken enjoyed growing up on a mixed family farm near Wawanesa. It was here he developed a life long love of working and playing with animals. He especially enjoyed his years spent in the 4H Beef Club, and summers playing ball. Ken started his education in the Northfield school and later amalgamation took him to the Wawanesa school where he graduated. After graduation Ken continued to farm on the family farm as well as spreading his wings to try different jobs in different places, working for Pool Elevators, Mid-west Drilling, CN Railway, Carnation in Carberry, Shilo Farms, and most recently the Wawanesa Waste disposal site. No matter where his jobs took him, the community of Wawanesa was  always very dear to Ken’s heart. He loved to take part in many community activities, as well as all family events. Ken will always be remembered for his kindness, compassion and generosity. He will also be remembered for his great sense of humour and quick wit, his storytelling, and his local history interests. Ken was a friend to many people of all ages and he loved spending time with them all. Ken’s love of nature was very evident with much time being spent at Skookum Lake, with  his special love, and soul mate Julie, and his dog, Dingo. Their church cabin, the peace, the serenity, the animals, birds, and beautiful sunsets at the lake brought much joy to Ken’s life. Ken will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by: Soul mate Julie Friesen and children, Ajay (Jackie) and family, Carley (Mike) and family; siblings, Joyce (Randy) Tully and children, Brad (Tanya) and family, Robyn (Evan) and family, Erin (Aron) and family, Laura (Bryce) and family, Kathy (Rod) Noel and children, Terry (Nancy) and family, Jeff (Sally), Mike (Linda) and family, Brian (Karie) Mooney and children, Emma and Grady. A service in memory of Ken’s life was held at the Wawanesa Community Hall on September 28. Harvey Hurren directed the service where family and friends gathered to share “Ken” stories. Eulogy  was shared by Joyce with Julie, Carl, Brad, Robyn, Erin and Laura sharing their memories as well.
