BISSON: Surrounded by the love of her family Marie (Mangin) Bisson passed away in the early hours of December 24, 2018. Marie Josephine was born July 18, 1924 to Joseph and Ernestine (Simeons) Mangin, a sister for Louis. Her older brother passed away from appendicitis when Marie was 5 years old. Sadly her mother died September 10, 1936 when Marie was 12, and with 3 younger brothers, she became the “little mother” as her brothers called her. She assumed the role and became quite the baker. Two years later Marie’s father married Elizabeth Murray and the family grew with 3 more brothers and finally a sister. After Marie graduated from Grade 8 she stayed home to help look after the children. Life was hard but Marie also had many happy times with her family and relatives. As young adults Marie and her brothers enjoyed singing and playing music for friends and family. In 1947 Marie met Alcide (Sid) Bisson and they were married on June 14, 1949. They started their married life on the farm at Margaret where they raised their 4 children. Being a homemaker and looking after family were very important to Marie. She spent many hours knitting socks and sweaters for her brothers and her children later on. She could make clothes from hand me downs look like new with her prized sewing machine. Marie sewed most of her own clothes and for her daughters including their wedding dresses. Once she no longer sewed clothes she turned to cabbage patch kids and made complete wardrobes for each baby doll. Marie was very artistic and produced many crafts such as liquid embroidery, ceramics and oil paintings which the children cherish. There was always a garden to tend but Marie loved her flower garden the best and would take a walk around the yard every night to check on the flowers. In October 2002 Sid and Marie moved to an apartment in Killarney when Sid was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. He passed away April, 2003 and Marie remained in her apartment until 2012. She enjoyed the friendships she shared there until breaking her second hip after which she moved to Bayside Personal Care Home. From December, 2012 to December, 2018 Marie enjoyed the activities offered, especially the music or when children visited Bayside. Her pleasant manner won her many friends with the staff, residents and their families. She was always thankful for the wonderful care she received from all the staff and the family is very appreciative of the respect and care shown to their mother. Marie was predeceased by her husband Sid, her parents Joseph and Ernestine, her in laws Philippe and Sarah Bisson, her step mother Elizabeth, her brothers Louis, Gerard, Emile and Louis. She was also predeceased by several in laws. Left to mourn her passing are her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Daughter Rita (Ken) Shackel; Steven (Leanna) Nora and Mia; Jason (Kali) Blakely and Braelyn; Cheryl; daughter Linda (Albert) Lamy; Colleen (Craig) Halls, Michaela and Kristen; Michael, Bayley, Jaden and Liam; Darryl (Nicole) Scarlett and Lincoln; son Father Paul Bisson; son David Bisson, Joshua and Josephine. Also left to mourn are her 3 brothers, Frank (Madeline), George (Emilienne) and John Mangin, and her sister Theresa (Raymond) Faucher and their families. There are also many brothers and sisters in-laws, nieces and nephews who will miss her quiet strength. Prayers were held at Wheatland Funeral Chapel Sunday, December 30, 2018. Funeral Services were held Monday, December 31, 2018 at St. Felix de Valois church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Paul Bisson and Father Philip Malayil officiating. Also in attendance were Fr. Gerald Langevin, Fr. Wayne Morrissey, Fr. Art Seaman, and Fr. Michael Nault. Fr. Darius Biliran with Archbishop Richard Gagnon speaking on the importance of mothers in our lives.
