REID: Albert Alexander Reid, April 12, 1934 - December 25, 2018. Albert (Bud) was born in Verwood, SK. He was the second child and only son of Robert and Marian Reid. The family later moved to a small farm in the RM of Oakland near Wawanesa, MB. He attended Tendfield and Chesley schools. Bud attended school until grade 8 and then helped his dad with the family farm. He later worked with the Canadian Breeders Association in the Brandon area. It was during this time that he met the love of his life Marlene Remus, who worked at the TB Sanitorium in Ninette. They were married November 1, 1958 and resided in Brandon. On November 22, 1962 their first daughter Traci Lynn was born. The next year, in 1963 they moved back to Marlene’s family farm where Bud was able to get a job with Shentag Construction during the establishment of the IMC Potash mine. Their second daughter, Carla Ann was born July 8, 1967. Bud eventually was hired by IMC as a mechanic and continued to work there until retiring in April 1999. During this time period he also farmed 2 quarters of land. He retired from farming in the spring of 1990. The love of his life, Marlene passed away January 6, 2010. He continued to live on the farm until summer of 2016 when his health was declining. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he enjoyed watching them play and grow whether it was attending hockey games or having fun on the family farm. He was especially thrilled that his grandson had taken over the family farm. Bud always enjoyed the outdoors and made time for camping in the summer with his family. Bud was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed snowmobiling. Additionally, he occasionally hunted jumper and trapped beavers and muskrats. Bud was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened. He wasn’t one to easily show his feelings, although we always knew that he deeply cared for his family. He was also known to sit back and listen and then come up with a quirky one-liner! Bud dealt with many health problems without ever complaining. He was truly a model patient. When Marlene was diagnosed with terminal illness in 2009, the first thing he said to her was “I won’t be far behind you”. He had also commented a few times that he had passed his “best before date”. His life-long words of wisdom were always “Don’t sweat the small stuff!!”. He leaves to mourn, his daughters Traci (Dennis) Aaron, Jaimie and Natasha, and Carla (Allan) Jacob, Dustin and Chris (Randi); sisters Agnes Sayer, Eleanor (Paul) Vanwynsberghe, and numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Caroline Tocher. He is predeceased by his wife Marlene in January 2010, brother-in-law Dave Sayer and his parents Robert and Marian. Pallbearers were: Dustin Jacob, Chris Jacob, Jaimie Aaron, Russell Putland, Eric Vanwynsberghe and Rick Vanwynsberghe. Interment took place in Yorkton Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations may be made to the Langenburg Centennial Special Care Home or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
