HEAMAN: Bernice Claire Heaman (Alexander). Bernice was born on the farm SW 34-11-24 near Lenore and Kenton, MB. She was the youngest daughter of Francis Clair Alexander and Mary Edith Evelyn Alexander (Bowes). She excelled in her education at Lenore and Oak River Schools. She took her teachers training in Brandon, MB. With teachers training finished in June of 1957 she started teaching at Victor School in the fall at the age of 19. It was there that she met Clifford Heaman and they married August 8, 1959 and lived in a small house on the farm of Cliffs parents, buying the farm from Gordon Heamans estate after his death. Farming there for several years growing grain and raising purebred Hereford cattle which took them to many sales and shows. They raised their children Lyle and Colleen on the farm then moved to the Hamiota area in 1993 after Cliffs hip surgery. During their years on the farm Bernice was a fall partner who often made the last few rounds on the tractor or combine while Cliff did the chores and made supper. Bernice was a very talented musician, she played organ at church and entertained at seniors home complex. While her own sports activities were limited to curling and bowling she was an avid fan and supporter. She attended many games of ball, hockey, curling and activities at school to watch Cliff, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many of the kids in the area knew her as Grandma Heaman. She saw many things during her lifetime. Many changing technologies and she changed with the times. Returning to ACC in the 1990s graduating Business Administration and working several office jobs. She was a woman who kept with the times making full use of computers, cell phones and other modern inventions as they were invented and became available to the public. She and Cliff were avid card players and attended many card tournaments. They were great dancers attending many dances over the years. One of the smoothest couples you could every watch waltzing. She was an active and inclusive grandmother taking her grandchildren on many trips with her and Clifford as they traveled the country. She lived a full life leaving many memories. Bernice is survived by her son Lyle Heaman and his children Helena (Robin Davidson), Billy, James, Jon, Justin and Randi Heaman, her daughter-in-law Shelley Heaman, daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Wayne Robertson, their children Steven Robertson (Chelsea), Laura (Logan) McGonigal, Christine (Sean) Wills), grandchildren Roanna, Ariah and Jude (Helena), Avery and Brielle (Laura), sister Joyce Heaman, sister-in-law Joyce Heaman (Alvin), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Clair and Edith Alexander, brothers Aldwyn and Francis Alexander, brother-in-law Allan Heaman and many other in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
