McLENAGHEN: Harold, 1944-2019. On the 15th of February Harold William McLenaghen took his last breath enveloped in the love of his family. To all who shared your thoughtful memories of Harold and heartfelt condolences with Don and me, please know your kindness in and recognition of Harolds death is truly appreciated. We take heart in remembering the good man he strived to be. Thank you to the angels on A3, Dr. Large and Greg Hildebrandt at Memories. He was a curious guy not satisfied that some things just worked, he wanted to understand the how and the why, with the patience to see it through. Willing to listen, learn and share when asked. He could be pretty inventive when a situation called for it. He went from calling a floppy disk a sloppy disk to building his own computer. A skilled handyman, a mechanic back in the day when you could still fix your own car. He was a funny guy, who couldnt remember a punchline to save his soul. No he was more of the prankster variety with deadpan delivery, he pulled some doozies and never mean, I am sure upon recollection some smile to this day and he could laugh at himself. While on his way back to our campsite one night he wandered into a site with a fire that looked very much like the one he had built, sat down only to look up and see strangers staring back at him, he promptly rose, complimented them on their fire and chuckled all the way back to our site. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a natural at sports, baseball, curling, bowling, golf and yes chess. Together we must have walked the length and breadth of Brandon ten times over during which times we solved the ills of the world. A guy who beamed when he was thanked but never expected it. There are three people who walk the earth today because of Harolds direct intervention, not one to seek praise in his lifetime we shall do it for him, our unsung hero. A man who showed empathy for the patients he interacted with as an orderly, who showed reverence for the deceased and concern for the bereaved when at the lab. A man who respected and enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow workers. My buddy and true love who captured my heart at seventeen, a dad who loved his son beyond measure and was loved in return. A man who will be remembered and cherished for our eternity. Closing with his favorite toast Happy Days, Honey and they will be again someday. Delphine and Don

I’m sorry to here of Harold’s passing. I remember Harold and Del visiting us in Ottawa when I was a kid. Their names featured often in my grandmother’s reminiscences and news of the family out West, and Dad was thrilled, as we all were, by their visit. I remember them as lovely people. - Posted by: D’Arcy McLenaghen (Cousin (first)) on: Mar 21, 2025
