BILES: Our mother Anna Steinun Biles passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the age of 94. She was born to Fridbjorn and Gudny Joelson on August 30, 1924 in a farmhouse near Glenora, MB. Mom grew up in a family of 8 children and attended Antonius school north of Baldur, MB. She met Bertram Bill Biles following his discharge from WWII. They were married on June 20, 1947 in Glenboro, MB and farmed 7 miles south of Glenboro. Mom will always have our utmost respect for her hard work ethic. While raising 6 children, including twins, she did all the household chores, baking, sewing, gardening and canning without the conveniences we enjoy today. In 1971 she began a new career working nights as a nurses aid at the Seniors Home, and later switched to day shifts as a cook. Upon the opening of the new Personal Care Home Mom took a position in housekeeping until her retirement in 1986. After moving to Christie Street in Glenboro in 1975 Mom took up her passions of curling, golf and travel. She was community-minded and belonged to several organizations, including the Glenboro Health Auxiliary, the Rebekah's and the Legion Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the Glenboro Curling Club, Glenboro Golf Club and Raystone Senior Centre. Her travels took her to England, Alaska, BC, the Maritimes and numerous places in the USA. A memorable trip was also made to Iceland to explore her heritage. We have fond memories of her Icelandic kleinas and vinetarta, and the grandchildren all remember the special treats they got to eat at Grandmas, especially the pies. Mom moved into Lyall Park Place in August 2011 and was blessed to continue to live independently until her final journey. Anna loved her family dearly and no matter the situation was always there to help. She especially loved the times when the whole family managed to get together. She will be greatly missed, but our memories live on. Anna was predeceased by husband Bill (2002), son Bob (2000), her parents, sisters Alice and Ethel, brothers Norman, Bill, Sig, Irvin, and Herman. She is survived by her children Wendy (Wayne) Duchart of Kelowna, BC; Dan (Maureen) of Winnipeg; Kathy (Bill) Bolley of Brandon; Keith (Debbie) of Glenboro; and Randy (Marlene) of Wawanesa. She leaves to mourn 12 grandchildren (Tannis, Carey, Jessica, Megan, Carter, Logan, Matthew, Samantha, Kurt, Craig, Candace and Brennan), 9 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Pearl Joel and numerous extended family. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 12 at Willmor Chapel, Glenboro. Interment followed in the Glenboro Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in Annas memory to the Glenboro and Area Foundation, Box 147, Glenboro, MB, R0K 0X0 or to STARS Air Ambulance, Head Office, 1441 Aviation Park NE, Box 570, Calgary, AB, T2E 8M7 or to a charity of your choice.
