McDONALD: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice McDonald (nee Hodgson) on February 23, 2019 at the Hamiota Hospital. Bernice was born on June 6, 1939 to Clare and Dorothy Hodgson and raised on a farm outside of Hamiota with her three other siblings. She graduated from Hamiota Collegiate, met her husband Neil, and they were married on August 8, 1964. Bernice taught school for a few years prior to becoming a mother, and then began a twenty-seven year career with Statistics Canada where she worked as an Area Supervisor. Bernice believed that being a volunteer in the community was important and spent over fifteen years as a Voluntary Emergency Responder. She was also part of the Executive for the annual Child and Family Services fundraising concert and auction. Many hours of enjoyment were spent camping at Lake Audy, gardening and tending to her flowers, as well as attending the various activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. Bernice is survived by her loving husband Neil McDonald; daughters Tracey McDonald; Kristen Scott (Dallas); grandchildren Nicholas and MaKenna Scott and Daniel Fayant; sister Margaret Warriner (Dave). Bernice was predeceased by her parents Clare and Dorothy Hodgson; sister Viola Bamford and Roy Hodgson (Dale). Graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hamiota Cemetery (bring a lawn chair if you wish) with light lunch to follow at the Hamiota Community Center. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations in Bernice’s memory may be made to the Hamiota District Health Center Foundation, Parkinson’s Canada or a charity of your choice.Campbell Funeral Home,Hamiota, are in care of the arrangements.
