RATHWELL: William “Ray” Rathwell, beloved husband, dad and papa, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 15, 2019. Ray was born in Brandon on September 9, 1929. A lifelong resident, he had a long career with Cook Lumber. Family was always his greatest treasure and top priority. He was always available to give advice or help with a project. He took great joy in attending activities in which his grandchildren were involved. Over the years, Ray enjoyed being a member if the Brandon Club and the Lions Club. He was an avid volunteer in many organizations including Journey for Sight and curling events. He was a season ticket holder for the Brandon Wheat Kings and an enthusiastic Saskatchewan Roughriders fan. For many years he enjoyed bowling in various leagues. Ray and Norie loved to travel and had the opportunity to experience many parts of the world including Europe and many warm destinations. In 1971, he and Norie purchased a cabin at Brandosa Beach. The family spent summers at the lake enjoying boating and association activities with “summer” friends. Many gatherings were held on the deck, always lots of laughter was involved. Most days he could be found on the Minnedosa Golf Course. It was not unusual to see one the grandkids driving the golf cart for papa. Left to celebrate Ray’s life are his wife of 55 years Norie, children Wendy (Mel), Ward (Susan), Todd (Rhonda) and Jodi (Sandy). Ten grandchildren, Erin, Jeffery (Jen), Chris (Lyndsay), Jason (Brittney), Mike (Tracey), Taryn, Logan, Morgan, Paige, Rachael and 5 great grandchildren. Ray is also survived by his sister Irene (Jack), sister-in-law Sharon (Lee), brother-in-law Wes, sister-in-law Marilyn and numerous nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his wife Francis, son Scott and brothers Gordon and Wally. Thank you to the staff on 400 Brandon Regional Health Centre for their excellent care and compassion.
