FITZPATRICK: Margaret passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Valleyview Care Centre with family by her side. Margaret Tootie was born in Oak Lake to John and Jennie Inglis. She was the youngest of seven children. Mom grew up on a farm and attended school in Kenton. After graduating, Mom decided to go into psych nursing at BMHC in Brandon. She loved her time there and living in the nurses residence. It was while she was in training that she met the love of her life, Gene. After graduation they both nursed at BMHC. They were married at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church, and a few years later started their family by welcoming children Lynnette and Ken. The family moved to a farm near Kenton for a few years to farm. Mom and dad then decided to return to Brandon and open a private nursing home. They ran it together and the residents became part of the family. After a few years, they decided to make a change and Mom went back to psych nursing. When mom retired from BMHC she missed nursing and worked at We Care. Mom cherished her time spent with the people she loved. Mom was kind, generous, caring and outgoing. She would do anything for anybody and would be the first one there if anyone needed anything. Mom made several life-long friends from elementary school, nurses training and throughout her life. Mom was known for hosting family suppers and she also enjoyed playing cards, family trips, fishing (if someone else would take the fish off the hook) and simply spending time with family and friends at home and at the cottage. Mom loved to knit and spent many hours knitting for family and fundraising for the nurses alumni. Mom was predeceased by her parents John and Jennie; sisters Blanche, Anne (Claude) Crayston, and Effie (Harold) Drummond; and brothers Roy (Dorothy), George (Velma) and Walt (Eileen). Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Lynnette, son Ken (Karen) and grandson Steven, many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law Janet Fitzpatrick and Joan McDowell, and friends. A family service was held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at Memories Chapel, officiated by Rev. Fr. Chris Dubois from St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church. Donations in memory of Margaret may be made to the Parkinson Society of Manitoba, 7-414 Westmount Drive Winnipeg, MB R2J 1P2 or CNIB, 354 10th Street, Brandon, MB R7A 4G1.
