TOWN: The family of Murray Town are sad to announce his death on September 1st, 2019 at a long term care home in Ottawa at the age of 81. Murray was born in Brandon and went to school at David Livingstone and BCI. As a boy he delivered newspapers and worked with his dad, uncles and cousins at the Town Market Garden. He spent summers in the old campground at Clear Lake, working as a caddy at the golf course, setting pins at the bowling alley, roller skating and swimming. Murray left Brandon to work for the Hudson Bay Co. in Churchill and never returned home. He eventually settled in Ottawa, married and obtained a degree from Carleton University in Economics and Political Science. After completing his university degree Murray worked most of his career with CMHC, liaising between government funding of on-reserve housing projects and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada. This career offered opportunities for travel, learning French and exposure to Indigenous culture. Murray faithfully took time to fly home to Brandon each year to spend time with his aging parents, Lillian and T.S. Town (Bus), and to stay close to his siblings, Marlene (Andre) Brichon, Cam (Colleen) Town and Sherry (Joe) Moskven. During each visit he connected with nieces and nephews and made the rounds visiting his aunts and uncles. Murrays interests were many and diverse. He loved fine wine, good cooking, freshly ground coffee, well made clothes, his motorcycle, and all kinds of chocolate! He was dedicated to physical fitness through all his life. Ballroom dancing was a passion and he was an accomplished dancer. He would roller blade to work, go on skiing trips, maintained his judo skills and took exercise classes. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Mark (Esther) and Jean Paul (Linda) of Ottawa, who were there to advocate for the best care for their father during his illness; his daughter Michelle (Everett) Cliver of Dryden, as well as six much loved grandchildren. Cremation has taken place in Ottawa and there will be family gathering in Brandon in the spring of 2020.
