HARMON: Dick Henry Harmon was born on November 8, 1930 in Melita. He was the eighth of nine children born to William Harmon and Helen (Anderson) Harmon. He received his education at Brown’s School and Melita High School.Dick was a longtime member of the Brown’s Fastball Club and a charter member of the Melita & Area Lions Club. Dick enjoyed curling, hunting and was an avid fisherman. Dick and Helen spent many good times fishing and camping and later enjoyed golfing as dedicated members of the Melita Golf Club. Dick farmed for several years before taking up carpentry full time in 1962, building most anything over the years. He retired in 1993 but still put in time in his “shop” working on smaller projects and then on the wood lathe. Dick enjoyed gardening and yard work, always keeping things neat and tidy. In 1966, Dick married Helen (O’Reilly) Wilson and they resided in Melita. Dick built their home in 1974, which was a real labour of love for him. In May of 2012, Dick was inducted into the Manitoba Softball Hall of Fame as part of the Brown’s Ball Club. This was an honour that touched him deeply. Dick is survived by his wife, Helen; brother, Stewart Harmon (Nancy); sister-in-law, Joyce Harmon; sister-in-law, Loretta O’Reilly; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William Harmon and Helen (Anderson) Harmon; sisters, Mona Swedenski, Marjorie Sorenson, Dorothy Garnett, Joyce Bailey, and Bette Draper; brothers, Bill Harmon and Jack Harmon; brothers-in-law, Holger Sorenson, Ken Draper, Henry Bailey, Vincent O’Reilly, Edward O’Reilly, Wes Beetham, Ernie Stephenson, Bill O’Reilly; sisters-in-law, Joan Harmon, Marlene Harmon, Pauline O’Reilly, Marion Beetham, and Eileen Stephenson. The funeral service was held at Victoria United Church, Melita, MB on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Christopher Davis and Rev. Barb Alston officiating.
