BAKER: John David (Dave). Dave Baker passed away peacefully at Brandon Regional Health Centre on Thursday, December 26, 2019, aged 86 years. Dave was predeceased by his father, Norman, his mother, Ellen, and his sister, Frances Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Marge; sons Jeff (Martin Lavoie) and Paul (Heather); brothers Dennis (Lila) and Ivan (Linda); as well as countless cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends and well-wishers around the globe. Dave led a full life from beginning to end. Dave’s career was filled with variety, ranging fromfarming the home farm south of Brandon, and sales across Western Canada, to working for Incoin Thompson, Manitoba, and railway worker, journeyman electrical technician for Manitoba Hydro. His passions and interests included travel, spending time with family (often travelling), arguing points he didn’t necessarily believe (with family, friends, and strangers), tinkering around the house (and his family’s houses), and swearing with the best of the world’s truckers and sailors (mostly while tinkering around the house, and often because of family and friends). Dave’s wit, humour, kindness, and ability to stir the pot like no other will be missed greatly. If anyone happens to be looking for Dave in the afterlife, he will be easily recognizable. Look for the peaceful gentleman in a rocking chair, dressed in a vintage sweatshirt, black cat on his lap, scotch and water in hand, and crossword by his side. Please pass on all our love if you happen across him. At Dave’s request, no formal service will be held, and flowers are gratefully declined. We ask you to simply annoy a telemarketer, argue a moot point with a loved one, or raise an adult beverage in his name. Donations in memory of Dave may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation Cancer Services, ‘Prostate Cancer’, 150 McTavish Ave. E, Brandon, MB, R7A 2B3 or to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 4B 457 9th Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 4A9.
