McCLOY: Kenneth Argyle McCloy, 1924-2020. It is with great sadness that the family of Ken McCloy regretfully have to say that Ken has passed away. He peacefully left this world behind to be united with God and reunited with his family up above on January 26, 2020. Kenneth was predeceased by his grandparents William and Phyllis Argyle, Daniel and Martha McCloy, his parents J.D. and Emily McCloy, sisters Irma and Loreen, brothers-in-law Russell Torgerson, Harry Melnick and Keith Lockhart, and nephews Scott McCloy and Guy Torgerson. He leaves behind to mourn his departure, his brother Howard (Hazel) McCloy and sister Marion Lockhart and numerous nephews and nieces and their families. Kenneth was the first child born to J.D. and Emily McCloy. He was born on November 21, 1924 on the family farm homesteaded by his grandfather Daniel, in 1905. It was on this farm Ken grew up and followed in his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps and farmed the land till he retired. ‘Lord blessed the land he gave him, and he always knew as he tended to the crops and cattle, the good Lord was the one who helped him through. He granted him the strength and wisdom and protected him from harm. Ken was thankful for this gracious gift and the blessing of a farm.’ Ken then left his farm to live at Glen Haven Manor in Glenboro. While living there he took on the responsibility of making sure the exit doors were locked at night time and the entrances were clear of snow and mud outside. He looked after alot of the residents there over the years and he was very grateful to the ones who in turn looked after him, Sandra, Linda, Oleen, Dorothy and Wendy, to name a few. His last home was the Glenboro Personal Care Home, which he moved into in February 2018. He enjoyed his time at the home and the caring help the staff gave him. Over his lifetime, Ken’s main interests were on the farm with ‘the trials and tribulations’ that a farmer endures in raising cattle and sowing crops to feed his livestock and his family. He enjoyed his friendly and helpful neighbors, the Dowds, Mowats, Tafts, and Woods families. In his twenties, he became very involved in the sport of curling, winning several bonspiels - one being a very rewarding bonspiel, when the curling team of Jack Gowanlock, Lorne McCallum and Stubby Christie won the big “SPIEL’ in Winnipeg in 1955! In his retirement years, he took up golfing and enjoyed that leisurely outing with Jack Gowanlock, Bob Acorn, Henry Biles, to name a few. In his last twenty years, one could see Ken out and about driving around town and checking on his farm and the Bjornson acreage. He went out of his way and was a great help to the Bjornson/Torgerson family, as he checked on their place everyday and mowed there every year till he retired from that job at the age of 92. He was very grateful to have Russ as a friend, who helped with the maintenance of the mowers and helping with the mowing from time to time. Ken said “Since my work is done here, I have had a ‘calling’, one I can’t refuse, I am taking a ‘heavenly’ journey to be reunited with my family and will eventually see you, too.” Ken’s ‘farewell’ funeral service will held (today) Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wilmor Chapel in Glenboro, MB. If one feels so inclined they may make a donation to the Glenboro Personal Care Home in memory of Ken for all the special care they gave him and the others at the home, or do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for someone less fortunate than you, or when you hear a birds singing, think of Ken saying “Enjoy the simple things in life”, and feed them from time to time. “A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest,God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.”
