VERBRUGGEN: Geertje (Gertie) Verbruggen, October 15, 1925 to December 25, 2019. Wife, Mother, Oma, and Beppe. Gertie passed away unexpectedly at St. Pauls Hospital in Saskatoon, SK, in her 94th year, with her family by her side. Gertie was born in Bergum, The Netherlands the second youngest of 13 children. Mom met dad during the war and on November 5th, 1951 they married and soon after they immigrated to Canada to find a better life. They settled first in Winnipeg before moving to Brandon. Gertie was ever so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always putting them first. Mom was predeceased by her husband John in December of 1997 and by 10 brothers and sisters in the Netherlands and 1 sister in Australia. Mom leaves to mourn 1 brother Djourd (Uke) Weilinga of Utrecht, The Netherlands, one son Douglas (Jan) Verbruggen and one daughter Patti (Clarence) Paul. She also leaves behind 3 grandchildren Mandy-Lynn (David) McGregor, Cassandra (Michael) Sova, and Johnathon (Ashley) Cuffe, step grandchildren Terry (Mandy) Senger and Darren Senger. Also surviving are 8 great grandchildren: Brianna, Halee, Moya, Aurora, Johannah, Ryder, Chloe and Jayce, step great grandchildren, Kaleb and Brianna. A memorial Service celebrating moms life will be held at 2:00 pm on the 22nd of February 2020 at First Presbyterian Church, 339-12th Street Brandon. Gertie will be laid to rest with her husband John in Saskatoon, SK, during a private family service at a later date.
