PUGH: It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of Loreen Shirley Pugh (Caswell) November 14, 1934-February 21, 2020. Loreen was born November 14, 1934 at Cannington, Saskatchewan. She was the ninth child of Dwight and Bertha Caswell. In 1935 her family moved to Killarney. This is where she grew up. Her father passed away when she was nine and Loreen got a paper route to help make a little money for the family. At the age of sixteen she quit school and went to work in the kitchen at the Killarney Hospital which she really enjoyed. However she developed an allergy after a few months and had to find a new job. After this she did house work and made meals for a family in the community. In 1949 Loreen was introduced to Roy Pugh and they began dating. Three years later November 15, 1952 they married and settled in a 2 room cottage. This was only for a few months as Roy worked on the oil crew and they lived in many places. Loreen always said this was a real experience for her as she was a shy girl, and did not know anyone. In April of 1954 they returned to Killarney but did continue to travel for Roys work and Loreen cooked for the crew. Loreen and Roy had three children, Blair, Jodie and Donalu. In 1963 Roy and Loreen purchased a construction business and called it Pughs Construction Ltd. Loreen worked in the office and had a play pen for Donalu. As time went on Loreen was able to stay at home and care for her children and home. Loreen along with Jean Nichol opened a ladies wear shop in the Killarney Mall in 1976. She eventually purchased Jeans share and ran it on her own for 2 years before selling. Loreen and Roy also purchased the Esso Service Station and Restaurant, and later along with nephew Jim Miles the Auction Mart. Loreen loved getting to know the people she worked with and the customers they served. Many friends were made. Over the years Loreen and Roy enjoyed many travels together. Numerous Grey cups, Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver. As well they travelled to Florida, California, Hawaii, Jamaica, Texas, and put on many miles in the U.S. and Canada in the motor home. Loreen enjoyed traveling but always looked forward to getting home.Loreen kept busy on the golf course and in the yard in the summer and curling in the winter. She was a Sunday school teacher, Junior Auxiliary Leader at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, a member and chairman of the central sports committee and was involved in recruiting the first professional figure skater to Killarney. She was also active on the executive for Killarney curling and golf club, lecturer for weight watchers, coordinator for arthritis foundation fundraisers in Killarney for a number of years, for which she received a certificate of appreciation. Loreen loved her family, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, she loved cuddling the new babies while visiting with the older children. Her greatest joy was her family. Roy and Loreen moved from their family home of 46 years to the Legion Plaza in Killarney in 2011. She lived here until January 30, 2020 when she was admitted to Bayside where she lived until her sudden passing on February 21, 2020. She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years Roy Pugh, son Blair (Cheryl), Jodie, Donalu (Paynter); grandchildren Laura (Bob), Emily (Rob), Rebecca (Simon), Ryan (Meliza), Melanie (Ji), Allison and Nicole; great grandchildren Taylor (Paul), Darian (Brendon), Wade, Rory, Will, Bailey, Brittany, Kirk, Troy, Charlotte, Riley, Jace, Connor, Ethan and great great grandchildren Ava and Addison, brother-in-law Russ Pugh, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
