HUNTER: William Dale Hunter. It is with extreme sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Dale Sally William Hunter at his residence on the morning of Monday, April 20, 2020. Dale was born in Brandon, MB on August 25, 1959 and grew up on the farm near Nesbitt, MB along with his younger sister Lana, later farming with his father and uncle. He attended school in Nesbitt, Wawanesa, and later Crocus Plains High School in Brandon. He played junior hockey in Swan River, senior hockey for the Wawanesa Jets, and for the Souris Elks. Dale went to Mayville, North Dakota to pursue a baseball scholarship and returned to play 21 seasons for the Riverside Canucks of the Manitoba Senior Baseball League, and later for the Birtle Blue Jays. He won two battling titles (once hitting .515 for the season) and was the MSBLs home run king and RBI leader eight times. His teams won six league championships. In 2008, he was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame. After retiring as an active player, Dale enjoyed umpiring at local baseball games. He was a huge supporter of his daughters Tasha and Teagan in their sports as they grew up. He rarely missed any of their baseball, curling and volleyball games. Dale held various jobs throughout the years including the oil industry and with MTS, but was drawn home for his passion working on the farm. Dale met Kim Dalman of Baldur and they were married on a farm near Belmont in 2007. In 2011, our grandson Korbyn came into our lives with open arms. Dale was so proud to raise this little man as his own Dales past leisure interests included farming, hockey, baseball, snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin with his friends. He had a sense of humor and a big heart. His personality left a mark wherever he went and valued the relationships he formed where ever he went. Dale is survived by his parents Gord and Marlene Hunter, sister Lana Hunter (Drew), wife Kim Hunter, father-in-law Lew Dalman, mother and father-in-law Esther and Byron Clark, Uncle Jack Mealy, Uncle Bill Mealy (Joyce), Aunt Marlene Mealy, Aunt Lois Grieves, daughters Tasha Jory (Derek) and Teagan Hunter (Craig), step-daughters Kayla and Kirby Dalman, grandchildren Denver Jory, Mabel Jory, Gracie Ruether, adopted grandson Korbyn Dalman, many cousins, and extended family. He was a son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, cousin, husband, father, papa, nephew and friend. He will be deeply missed by everyone and never forgotten. A Celebration of Dales life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Wawanesa Recreation Arena (made payable to the Souris River Recreation Commission), Box 278, Wawanesa, MB R0K 2G0 or donations will be accepted towards Dales adopted grandson Korbyn Dalman at gofundme.com/f/dalehuntermemorial, or to a charity of choice.
