EVELYN REIMER

Evelyn (Friesen) Reimer, age 93, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, Apr. 4, 2019 at Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB.

Evelyn was born on Aug. 1, 1925 to Jacob K.L. and Anna Friesen in Rosenhof, MB. She was the youngest of 16 children.

When Evelyn was five years old, her father passed away. At the age of nine, her mother married Bishop Peter P. Reimer of Blumenort, MB. When Evelyn was 13 years old, her mother passed away. By this time Evelyn had already lost four sisters and two brothers.

In her mid-teens, Evelyn received Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized by her stepfather, Bishop Peter P. Reimer.

On Apr. 14, 1946, Evelyn was joined in marriage to the love of her life, Cornelius P.D. Reimer, in Blumenort. Cornelius and Evelyn had 13 children altogether, but two died in infancy.

In 1950, they moved to Quellen Colony in Chihuahua, Mexico where they lived for 26 years. In 1958, they moved to Spanish Lookout, Belize for 1½ years. Evelyn served the Lord faithfully in raising and caring for her children while Cornelius, who was an ordained minister, was busy with the farm and ministry, including mission work among the Old Colonist people in Mexico. Evelyn and Cornelius often visited the sick, elderly and widows for whom they seemed to have a special heart.

In 1978, Cornelius became critically ill with a heart condition and Evelyn and Cornelius rushed to Canada for emergency heart surgery. During this time it was discovered that Evelyn had cancer. Once they had both recovered they made the decision to stay in Canada. In 1980, Evelyn and Cornelius moved to Morweena, MB.

Evelyn, at the young age of 56, became a widow when her beloved Cornelius passed away of heart complications on Nov. 30, 1981. A year later, Evelyn discovered that she had cancer again. God healed her again.

Evelyn moved back to Blumenort in 1988 where she remained until her first stroke in 2014.

On Jan. 18, 2001, Evelyn’s daughter Linda, age 35, passed away of cancer. Almost 13 years later, on Nov. 24, 2013, her son Bernie passed away of cancer.

In April 2014, Evelyn suffered a stroke that left her immobile. Her final five years were spent at the nursing home.

Evelyn Reimer was predeceased by her husband Cornelius, daughters Ruth and Linda (Wiebe), sons Peter and Bernie, as well as her parents and all of her siblings.

Evelyn leaves behind seven daughters and two sons: Irma and Howard Dueck of Chihuahua, Mexico, Margaret and John Kornelsen of Chihuahua, Mexico, Lavina and Jake Peters of Blumenort, MB, daughter-in-law Anna Reimer of Blumenort, MB, Alvin and Mildred Reimer of Steinbach, MB, Anne and Gerry Plett of Arborg, MB, Liz and Stan Plett of Arborg, MB, Corey and Helen Reimer of High River, AB, son-in-law Pete Wiebe of Steinbach, MB, Lydia and Neil Reimer of Seminole, TX and Evalina and Bruce Reimer of Arborg, MB. She also leaves behind 35 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Tena Friesen of Rosenort, MB.

We would like to thank the Bethesda Place staff for taking good care of Mom.
