LENA BACHEWICH
Apr. 13, 1930-Mar. 30, 2019

Lena Bachewich (Petrash) was born Apr. 13, 1930 to William and Maria Storochuk in Pansy. As a child, she grew up in Stuartburn. Lena received her education in Stuartburn and some high school in Gardenton. In 1948, she had some teacher training and taught in Ridgeland and Sundown.

In 1949, Lena married Michael Bachewich, who was a loving and caring husband and father. They lived on the farm north of Sundown where they raised five children. During that time, Lena taught school and helped on the farm.

In 1971, as the children were older, she took LPN nurse’s training at Red River College. In 1972, she graduated as an LPN and was employed at the Bethesda extended treatment unit for 16 years. Beginning in 1973, the family moved to Steinbach. Lena’s husband Mike took ill late in 1988, and she took care of him when he wasn’t hospitalized. He predeceased her in June 1989.

Lena then married Matt Petrash in 1991. They travelled to the United States for several winters to spend a few months in the warmer climate. Matt was a wonderful husband who enriched Mom’s life.

She was predeceased by her husbands Michael Bachewich and Matt Petrash, her parents William and Maria Storochuk, sisters Eva and Martha, and nephew Allan.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her children, Elsie (Sid), Jarvis, Pat, Ernie, Adeline (Darryl), many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the Petrash family.

The funeral service will be held Friday, Apr. 5, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, Sarto, MB, with viewing one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at the parish cemetery with reception to follow at the church.

Donations in memory of Lena may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
