GISELA MARGARETE GERULL

With family by her side, it is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dearly loved mother (mama) and grandma on Friday, Feb. 15, 2019 at the Vita Personal Care Home where she had resided for the last 6½ years.

Gisela is survived by her two daughters, Sandra Maxymowich (David) and Rita Sousa (Leo); grandchildren, Jordan, Isaac and Olivia. She is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

Gisela was predeceased by her mother Lotte Balz, son Richard, and husband Otto Gerull.

She was born in Nuremburg, Germany on July 31, 1942. Her jobs included being a nunnery assistant, sewing factory employee and a daycare worker. Gisela moved to Canada in March of 1967. She married her husband Otto on Apr. 19, 1968. She was a homemaker and helped on the farm. They had three children, unfortunately their son Richard was killed in a farming accident at the young age of 5½.

They farmed until 1996, until Otto’s health impacted his ability to continue farming. To be closer to family, they decided to move to Vita, MB where their daughter Sandra and her husband David resided. Otto passed away on June 14, 2004 and Gisela lived at home for eight more years with home care and family assistance. She was unable to live at home on her own, therefore was admitted to the Vita Personal Care Home on July 5, 2012, where she lived until her passing.

We would like to thank all the staff at the Vita Personal Care Home as well as the staff at Bethesda Hospital for their love and caring support of our loving mother and grandma.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. at Korban/Vita Funeral Chapel, followed by a lunch at the Ukrainian Catholic Parish Centre. Interment to follow at Badger Cemetery.
