JOHN D. KLASSEN
Jan. 31, 1935-Jan. 11, 2019

John D. Klassen, age 83, of Grunthal, MB, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019 at the Grunthal Menno Home for the Aged.

Dad loved a party. When our family had finished the Christmas breakfast consisting of waffles, white sauce and berry topping and his all-time favourite coffee, Tim’s, he asked, “When is the next party?”

Well, our dad has now joined the Heavenly gathering, celebrating with Jesus his Saviour.

Thank you, Menno Home team, for your generous care for our father. We are humbled and grateful.

He was tough as nails, with a good sense of humour, which carried him steadily through a lengthy illness.

John D. Klassen was the fourth of seven children born to John D. (Dueck) Klassen and Helena (Doerksen) Klassen on Jan. 31, 1935. He married Susie Wiebe on June 1, 1957. They shared 34 years together before she preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 1991. Their marriage was blessed with a quiver full, six children.

His memory is cherished by Debra Tessier (Ron), Bonnie Vanderpool (Jeff), Mark Klassen (Bonnie), John Klassen (Gail), Rachel Bezditny (Rick), Eric Klassen (Roxanne); 20 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

On Aug. 29, 1992, we were blessed when Dad married Kay Kornelson. Their marriage doubled our family in size and love continued to grow. Kay passed away Aug. 9, 2015, after 23 years of marriage.

Dad is remembered by his surviving siblings Dave, George, Helen O’Conner (Jim) and a large extended family. Imagine, for a moment, the reunion with Jesus and the many who’ve already gone home. Our hearts are warmed with all the memories and escapades of our time spent with Dad. We are grateful for the legacy of faith passed on by our parents. It grows as the next generation carries the baton of faith in Jesus.

God is so good!

The memorial service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Grunthal Bergthaler Mennonite Church, 101 Southwood Ave, Grunthal, MB.

A private family burial took place on Wednesday, Jan. 16 prior to the memorial service at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB.

If friends so desire, donations in memory of John may be made to Project Wellness.
