MARY TOFFAN (NEE Elkiw)
August 12, 1929- June 7, 2018
Mary Toffan, 88, of Steinbach, MB, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 7, 2018 after a three month battle with cancer.
She is survived by her sister Emily, brother-in-law Steve (Irene), sister-in-law Elma, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and one on the way.
She was predeceased by her husband Andrew, her parents Wasyl and Sophie Elkiw (nee Swynar), sister Anne (Peter) and brother Peter.
Mary was born on August 12, 1929 in Sarto, MB. She was a devoted wife to Andrew for 57 loving years, and an active member of St. Michaels’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto, MB. Mary cherished time with family and friends who were always welcome in her home. She had a passion for cooking, baking, gardening and instilling values in her nieces and nephews lives.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude to sister-in-law Elma who spend countless hours at Mary’s side during her last three months and to the nurses on the 2nd floor rehab unit at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach.
Pallbearers were Rick Toffan, Jerry Toffan, Taylor Toffan, Corey Dudar, Maurice Elkiw and Jack Buckle and Ashley Elkiw-Buckle was honorary pallbearer.
Funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach MB.
Lunch followed the service, followed by interment at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery, Sarto, MB.
If friends and family so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery Fund Box 82, Sarto, MB, R0A 1X0.
