MARTIEN DE KLEIN
July 5, 1944 - May 24, 2018

Unexpectedly and tragically on Thursday, May 24, 2018, Martien de Klein, our husband, dad, opa, brother and friend passed away at the age of 73.

Martien will be missed by his loving wife Toos Jacoba de Klein; by his children Marc (Debbie), Stephan (Sarah) and Christel; his grandchildren, Alex, Amieka, Miranda, Adrian, Madison, Isabel, and Colben; his siblings and family in Ontario and Holland and many friends in their Dutch community.

Martien grew up on a family farm on Lactaria road in Stevensbeek, Holland as the third youngest of eight siblings. His first visit to Canada was at 24 years old and he worked on a variety of farms via an exchange program. He returned to Holland soon, met Toos, and they were married one year later in 1970 and lived on the family farm for 12 years. In 1983, at the age of 39, Martien and his family emigrated to La Broquerie, Manitoba where they purchased a dairy farm. With Martien’s keen business sense, hard work ethic, and the support of his wife and family, they created a successful dairy business that still thrives today. Martien’s true love of farming was crop management.

Martien and Toos loved to travel the world and their adventures brought them to such places as New Zealand, Africa, Brazil, and Indonesia. In most recent years, Martien enjoyed playing cards with his many friends in the Dutch community. Martien was very proud of his children’s accomplishments and fond of his grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Manitoba with a public viewing prior and a luncheon to follow.

If so desired, Martien’s wishes are for donations in his memory to be made to Parkinson Society of Canada or to Canadian Mental Health Association - Winnipeg Division.
