Annie Siemens of Steinbach, MB passed away at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the age of 99.
Annie was born on Apr. 5, 1919 in Steinfeld, Russia to Frank and Anna Nikkel. The family moved to Canada in 1925 when she was six years old and settled in Rosengard, MB.
On May 27, 1967 she married John Siemens. Together they farmed in Morden, MB and later in Rosengard, MB until John’s death on June 21, 2000. After John’s death Annie moved from the farm to Cedarwood Supportive Housing in Steinbach.
She leaves to mourn her passing two brothers, Jake Nikkel of Steinbach and Peter (Edith) Nikkel of Abbotsford, BC, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Annie was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Anna Nikkel; three sisters, Agatha Penner, Nettie Nikkel, and Mary Wiebe; and two brothers, Frank in infancy and John.
Annie attended the Winkler Bible School and was involved in teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She had a great love for music and loved to sing and was part of the Mitchell choir for many years. She spent many hours in the evenings listening to her gospel tapes. She was a nurse’s aide working with the polio patients at the King George Hospital in Winnipeg for a number of years and enjoyed her work with the polio patients. When Annie retired from the hospital, she loved working on the farm, making a large vegetable garden and spending many hours working in her flower garden.
For the last few years, Annie lived at the Rest Haven Nursing Home. We thank all the staff for the wonderful care she received and a special thanks to the Chaplain.
The memorial service will be held Friday, May 11 at 3 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. Interment will take place prior to the service.
