August 13, 1929 – April 17, 2018
It is with tender sorrow that we announce the passing of Elvira Giesbrecht on Tuesday,
April 17, 2018 at Mt. Cartier Court in Revelstoke, B.C. Elvira was born at the Grace
Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 13, 1929. In March 1931, she went to live with
Klaas J. B. and Helena Reimer of Steinbach, Manitoba, and her adoption was finalized in
November 1932. They adopted Stanley in September 1934 and the family was complete.
On July 10, 1948, Elvira married Martin Giesbrecht and they lived in Steinbach for many
years, where their children were all born. Over the years they moved several times, in
and around the Winnipeg area, then to Saskatchewan. Martin worked primarily as a longdistance
truck driver while Elvira managed restaurants at various locations. It was while
they were living in Regina that Martin was killed in a trucking accident on August 15, 1977.
Elvira continued to live in Regina until 1989 when she moved to Revelstoke, to help her
brother Stan manage the MacGregor Motor Inn after the death of his wife Vera. Many
people knew her as Vi and knew of her kindness and no-nonsense way of doing business.
She was a hard worker who also knew how to relax and have fun. Vi’s home was a
popular stopping place for friends and family travelling through, and all were welcomed.
Elvira was pre-deceased by her parents, her husband Martin, sister-in-law Vera Reimer,
and close friend Taras “Terry” Kardynal. She will be lovingly remembered by her five
children: Bryan (Brenda), Dianna (Ralph), James (Lynda), Walter (Susan) and Phyllis; 12
grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; brother Stanley Reimer; numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins; and many, many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cam Molder for his many years of care for their mother;
the home care team with Interior Health in Revelstoke for helping Mom to stay in her
home in care and comfort for as long as she wished; and the residential care team at Mt.
Cartier Court for their kindness and care in making her comfortable during her final
journey.
Following her wishes, there will be no funeral service held in Revelstoke. Elvira’s ashes
will be placed alongside her husband in Steinbach at a private family gathering this
summer. If friends so desire, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in
Elvira’s name.
Messages of sympathy may be sent to Elvira’s family by viewing her obituary at:

Cremation arrangements are in the care of Brandon Bowers Funeral Home, Revelstoke.
