LEONARD SAULT

It is with great sadness the family announces the peaceful passing of Leonard Sault on January 14, 2015 at the age of 82 years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years Wilma, his son Richard (Tracey) and his grand-daughter Kirsten. He is, also, survived by his brother Bob (Penny) Sault, sisters Ruth Chopyk, Pat Storozuk, and Edna (John) Andres, brothers-in-law John (Barbara) Christiansen, Murray Christiansen as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Leonard was born on July 31, 1932 in Vita, MB to Frank and Haldies Sault and grew up on the family farm in Zhoda. Wilma and Leonard married in 1960 and lived in St. Boniface and Transcona before buying their home in Windsor Park. He worked at various jobs prior to starting with Winnipeg Transit as a Bus Operator. Leonard and Wilma enjoyed spending their weekends with family and friends at the farm. The family has many happy memories of these weekends snowmobiling, Leonard tending his garden, sitting around the bonfire and cutting wood for the winter. Leonard retired from Transit in 1993 after 27 years of service and moved back to the family farm in Zhoda in 1997. During his retirement Leonard’s gardening expanded to include Christmas trees and he ordered seedlings every year for planting on the farm. Many days were also spent driving the country roads exploring the countryside. Leonard enjoyed going to dances and listening to old time country bands. He was active in the community, joining the MB Christmas Tree Association and the Tractor Club in Steinbach until his health issues limited these activities.

Leonard was a kind gentle man with a touch of a stubborn streak that lead to his 70 year boycott of perogies. Like his parents he always welcomed everyone into his home. He looked forward to the weekends where everyone was at the farm and the yard was busy with activity. He was always ready to go for a quad ride with Kirsten through the trails on the farm. They would check the trees and look for deer and cranberries.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Seven Oaks Hospital as well as the Dialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their care and compassion during Leonard’s illness.

In keeping with Leonard’s wishes cremation has taken place and a funeral service will not be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or The Canadian Cancer Society.
