ELMA REIMER
On January 9, 2015, after a brief illness, Elma Reimer was called home to meet her Heavenly Father. She will be sadly missed by her children: Marilyn O'Hara of Kenora, Judith Larsen of Washington DC, Robert and Sylvia Reimer of Steinbach and Susan and Kel Zacharias of Winnipeg; her nine granddaughters and their families: Erin O'Hara, Meghan and Rick Hermann, Morgen, Jared, Addison, Catherine and Bailey Carillo, Allison Larsen, Taylor Larsen, Mandy and Matt Dirks, Jessica Reimer, Jill, Chris, Rollin and Mortimer Sawatzky and Amy Zacharias. Also left to mourn are her brothers, Milton Penner and Gilbert (Heather) Penner, sister-in-law Brigitte Reimer, and brothers-in-law: John (Ruth) Barkman, Art (Wilma) Kroeker, Chris Christenson and their families.
She was predeceased by her husband Rollin Reimer, son-in-law Thorbjorn Ruud Larsen II, her parents Peter and Elizabeth Penner, sisters: Martha, Adina and Joanne; father and mother-in-law Jacob and Justina Reimer, sisters-in-law: Marlene, Viola, Romelda and Kathy; brothers-in-law: Howard, Morris, Edmar and Wesley; and niece Beverly.
Elma was married for 65 years to Rollin Reimer, her childhood sweetheart. Theirs was a long and loving marriage, a wonderful model and example to their children, grandchildren and so many friends. Elma and Rollin attended Grace Bible Institute in Omaha, Nebraska and then spent 15 years in Ethiopia in ministry as missionaries with the Sudan Interior Mission before returning to Canada.
Elma was a member of the Steinbach Evangelical Free Church, serving as a leader in the Womens' Ministry. She was a prayer warrior and since 1978 served for many years as coordinator of the Prayer Chain.
As her children, we were always certain that Mom's love was unconditional. She was our greatest cheerleader and she was proud of each of us.
Her nine granddaughters, four grandsons-in-law and five great-grandchildren were assured of her love and were frequently told that she prayed for each of them every night.
Elma's strong faith and hope in God were unshakable to the very end. Her lasting impact on so many individuals will be immeasurable. In Elma we saw a life joyfully lived in God's presence, and now we know she is experiencing that joy completely and forever.
A special thanks to Doctor Sule Garba and Doctor Curtis Krahn for their help and friendship. We would also like to thank the Steinbach Bethesda Hospital physicians, nursing staff and the palliative care team.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave., Steinbach, with interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery.
If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Today House, Box 784, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1M6; or the Red Rock Bible Camp: Campership Fund, 204-320 Main Street, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1Z1.
