SARAH HIEBERT

Sarah (Sally) Hiebert, nee Klippenstein, of Steinbach, formerly of Niverville was born on June 9, 1928 , to Abram and Eva Klippenstein, the 11th of 13 children, on her parent’s farm in the Plum Coulee area. Her formal education was in Old Bergthal School but she was also well schooled in caring for farm animals – her area of expertise was caring for the 200 laying hens, a large investment then and good training for the 13,000 layers she and Dad had in later years.

Sally met that good looking Jake Hiebert in 1946 at young adults baseball games at Prefontaine school. He loved her tallness and her beauty and won her heart. They married on September 29, 1949 and Mom was barely given permission from the pastor to wear a white wedding dress. They began their family the next year with Sue (Giesbrecht), followed by Jim (Marlene), Gerald, Dave, Pete (Roxanne), Steve, Eva (Glinz), Jake (Tilly), John (Dana), Margaret, Lilian, Phyllis and Jennifer (Dyck).

Mom loved her big family and encouraged our baseball playing as part of family unity. We often played on Sundays and it was the day we had Mom for ourselves. She loved her Klippenstein family and was a good teacher of consideration and manners and treating others with love and respect. Her last days at the hospital were filled with words of encouragement and love and she expressed many times in those days how happy she was that her family loved her, and prayed so often for each of her 12 living children, 39 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Mom gave her life to Jesus at the age of 42 and wished she had done it sooner.

Mom was predeceased by her husband Jacob D. Hiebert in 2007, by one son, Stephen in 1976, by parents Abram a nd Eva Klippenstein, by sisters Eva and Marie, by brothers Johann, Abram, Heinrich, David, Gerhard(Ted), and by four siblings who died in infancy.

Sarah leaves to mourn brother Peter, sister in law Tina, her 12 children, 39 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

Mom had cancer for over a year and deteriorated rapidly over the last month. She was hospitalized in late November and passed away around 6:00 am, December 31, 2014.

We wish to thank the staff at Bethesda Hospital for their loving care, and Birchwood Funeral Chapel for the care and kindness in the funeral arrangements.

Funeral Service for Sarah Hiebert is on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, Manitoba. There will be a reception to follow the service with an Interment taking place at the Hespeler Cemetery in Niverville, MB.
