LILLIE PENNER
Our mother, Lillie Friesen Penner, was born to Cornelius and Katherine Friesen on October 16, 1925, near Steinbach, Manitoba. She passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, December 9, 2014. She had reached the age of 89 years.
Mom gave her heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, on October 23, 1938, by Minister F. C. Fricke. She remained faithful to her vows and throughout all the trials of life her heart was steadfastly fixed on her heavenly home.
On December 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to Bernhard Penner of Greenland, Manitoba, by Minister Peter A. Penner. They settled on a farm in Greenland. Two daughters were born to this union. After dad passed away on November 5, 1965, mom went to work to support her family. At the age of 40 she upgraded her education, taking a bookkeeping course at the Red River Community College. She then found employment as a bookkeeper until the time of her retirement.
Upon retirement, mom moved to Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, to be near her daughter, where she lived 12 years. In 2008, she returned to Manitoba, settling in her apartment at the Maplewood Manor in Steinbach.
Mom loved to garden and sew. She gave up gardening when she moved to the Manor, but she continued sewing until the day she passed. She sewed countless quilt tops and crocheted dozens of mittens for the Sewing Circle.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters: Verna and her husband, Robert Stutzman, of Cedar Hill, Texas; Delores and her husband, Menno Reimer, of Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia; three grandsons: Jason Stutzman, and his wife, Anna; Jeremy Stutzman; and Joseph Reimer; three great-grandsons: Nathaniel, Caleb, and Evan Stutzman. She is survived by two sisters, four brothers, and numerous in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held December 13, 2014, at Greenland Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Burial was in the Greenland Cemetery.
The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Maplewood Manor and the Greenland congregation for the care and kindness shown to our mother.
