WONG: Walker John. November 10, 1926 November 3, 2020. It is with profound sadness that we announce the loss of Walker Wong. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 in Brandon, Manitoba. He will always be loved and remembered by his sister Irene of Vancouver; sister-in-law Helen of Calgary; 11 nephews and nieces; numerous great nephews and great nieces, along with many other family and friends throughout Western Canada and the United States. He was predeceased by brothers Westley and Charles, sister May, and nephew Douglas. Walker was born and raised in Brandon, the third child of Wong Xianxi (Sam) and Ying Lim Quang. For many of his working years, Walker co-managed the family owned Carlton Cafe on 10th street until its closing in 1972, after which he devoted his time to caring for his mother until her passing. Walker was an avid reader and enjoyed much of his spare time exploring the local libraries. In his younger days, he was also an incredibly talented stained-glass craftsman, having created many beautiful pieces still enjoyed by various family members. He also loved to pass the time watching news and sports on television and socializing with friends and family. The family would like to thank the staff of Riverheights Terrace where Walker lived for the last seven years and the doctors, nurses and staff at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for their care of Walker. A special, heartfelt thanks goes out to his friend Brad Schoonbaert for being of great comfort and company to Walker during his final days. A celebration of Walker's life will be held at a later date.
