SHUTTLEWORTH: Albert Edwin Shuttleworth 1914-2020. Dad passed away on November 14, just shy of his 106th birthday. Having grown up on the farm, he had a lifelong interest in agriculture, contributed greatly to the natural history and birding societies of Brandon, and throughout his retirement, used his carpentry skills to support the Westman Regional Library in Brandon. "Bert" loved poetry and would recite his favourites from memory when the occasion was just right. He will be fondly remembered by his friends, 4 children (Heather, Les, Joyce and Norm) and their extended families. Interment will take place at the family plot in Minnedosa at a later date. Contributions in his name may be made to the Brandon Public Library.

"See how far that little candle throws his beams!
So shines a good deed in a naughty world."
William Shakespeare,"
"The Merchant of Venice"

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • My condolences on the passing of your father. From the comments, it is easy to have great respect for his embrace of life. I hope things are generally well in your life. Please extend my sadness of his passing to your siblings. What a great run he had! - Posted by: wendell lees (Friend of Les) on: Nov 24, 2020

  • I visited Bert only 2-3 times in the last 10 years via my Mom, Tina Ure, who was a close friend of Bert's. I must say that Bert was one of the most remarkable people that I have met. I think that curiosity and enthusiasm for learning are two of life's elixirs, and Bert provided evidence of that in spades. I was astounded by the questions he asked about my occupation as a medical scientist and by the volumes of literature that he consumed. We all would be blessed to see the world with wide-eyed wonder as Bert did for an incredible 106 years. I and my family will miss Bert and will remember him forever. - Posted by: Daren Ure (Friend) on: Nov 22, 2020

  • Hi Les, wow 106 years old. That's amazing! You must have been able to glean a lot of wisdom from your Dad. Sorry for your loss. Hope you are keeping well. It's many, many years since I've seen you but do hear the occasional bit of news from Carol H. Take care and again, my condolences. - Posted by: Arlene MacLeod (Long lost friend) on: Nov 21, 2020
