BRUCE: Ella Gay Bruce (nee Hotson), March 20, 1946 - October 22, 2020. Sadly, our family announces the passing of Gay, from complications of a 6 year battle with Dermatomyositis. Gay was born the youngest daughter of Jack and Noreen Hotson. She grew up in Brandon, MB and after a year at Manitoba Telephone, she persued her lifelong career as a teacher. First attending Teachers College and thereafter many summers at Brandon University to attain her degree. She truly lived up to her name as fun and laughter followed her throughout her life. After she married Martin in 1966, they began their adventure in the north. Teaching first in northern BC, and eventually in the Yukon, where they homesteaded land at Emerald Lake, near Carcross, where she taught for over 20 years, finishing her career in Sidney, BC until she retired. Gay and Martin traveled extensively to the Galapagos Islands, Palau, Hawaii, Europe, Mexico, N.Z. and U.S.A. Most recently, as her health began to fail, she loved spending time in their Airstream trailer, up island, near the ocean, where she could see the dolphins, ships and the hummingbirds at their feeders. Gay is survived by her husband, Martin, sisters; Janeen (Norm) and Linda (Jack), six nieces and nephews and four great nephews and niece. Gay was much loved and will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
