DR. BHUPINDER SINGH BEDI

It is with immense sadness we are announcing the sudden passing of Dr. Bhupinder Singh Bedi.
Dr. Bedi was a beloved father, husband, physician and member of the Winnipeg Sikh community.
He was born in Nagal, Punjab, India in 1948 to parents, Sohan Singh Bedi and Anoop Kaur Dedyal.
He grew up as one of five children in the town of Chandigarh, India. He was active in many sports and was team captain of his high school field hockey team and won the Nangal regional championship in 1965.
He completed his medical studies at Dayanand Medical College in Ludhiana, India in 1975, and chose to spend his life dedicated to excellent patient care. At the age of 30, he married his wife Seeta Bedi, whom he is survived by. He had two children, Jasbir and Prabhjot Bedi.
He established his initial family practice in Lockport, Manitoba in 1989. It was an honour for him to serve this community for many years, as well as the community of Selkirk, where he worked as a hospitalist. He later moved his practice in 2005 to the Jefferson Medical Centre, only retiring three years ago.
It was his dedication to the medical field which inspired both his children, Dr. Jasbir Bedi, and Dr. Prabhjot Bedi to also pursue medicine.
In his free time, Dr. Bedi, loved to tell jokes, play his harmonica and read poetry. He had a fond love for animals and owned many birds. He also enjoyed watching sports with his son, Jasbir, even taking trips around the world to Berlin to watch a championship soccer game. He was also very proud to pass on his clinic practice to his daughter, Prabhjot this year.
Dr. Bedi was very active in the Sikh community and his religious faith was a big part of his life. He was always there for his children, family and community and spent tireless hours making sure that everyone around him was well cared for. He was happy to sacrifice his time to help anyone in need.
He had a great love for his homeland India and for his mother Anoop Kaur, who he now rests in peace with. He also has many nieces, nephews and relatives which live in Canada, the United States and India who will also miss him greatly.
Funeral services will be held at Thomson "In the Park' Funeral Home on Saturday, December 5 at 10:00 a.m.
Due to the pandemic, we will be live-streaming the funeral from Thomson "In the Park" Funeral Home's Facebook page. People may also drive by the cemetery to view and extend condolences.

  • Dr. Bedi was a great man. I had the pleasure of working in his clinic for several years. In those years he showed his compassion and utmost care for his patients. He was kind and generous not only to his patients but to his staff as well. He always had a smile on his face that made you feel like the day was gonna be just fine no matter how hectic it was about to get. I extend my sincerest condolences to his entire family. - Posted by: Maria Almodal (Past Employee) on: Dec 07, 2020

  • My Deepest Sympathies for your loss. Dr. Bedi was the most kind and compassionate of all the Doctors that I have had. My first visit with him was in the eighties when he was at the walk-in Clinic in Selkirk. I liked him immediately and was happy to call him my Doctor when he opened his practice in Lockport, and also the Jefferson Medical Centre. I will never forget that he cried when I told him of my wife’s passing and his genuine concern and compassion for my well-being during that difficult time in my life. We shared an interest in each other’s families and he was especially proud when I told him that his son had helped treat my wife when she was in hospital near the end of her life. Gone but not forgotten, I will hold him Dear in my heart forever! Rest In Peace. - Posted by: Brett Armstrong (Friend / Patient) on: Dec 06, 2020

  • Though we got to know Mrs. and Dr. Bedi just a few years ago, Dr. Bedi's love and affection made us feel that we have known him forever! It is still very difficult for us to realize that he has departed for his heavenly abode. Whenever we met, Dr. Bedi always looked forward to grab a bite of the Patisas and Ladoos from Chandigarh. The tunes from his Harmonica- 'Hai Apna Dil to Awara' and others are still fresh in our hearts.  His untimely demise has left us very sad. Our heartfelt condolences for the bereaved. Wishing you peace to bring comfort and loving memories to be forever in your hearts. Dr. Jaìswal and family - Posted by: Dr. Jaiswal and family (Friends ) on: Nov 29, 2020

  • My wishes to the family and friends of Dr. "Bupi" during this time of sorrow and also of joy for a life well spent and from the guidance to his children to carry the torch for him. I was a Director of Pharmacy at the Selkirk and District General Hospital and it was an honor to have known and worked with this gentleman. I will never forget that almost every sentence he spoke ended with a smile and a chuckle. At first I thought it was just a nervous condition on his part but I quickly came to realize it was a reflection of his outlook on life and I enjoyed a good many conversations with him; both professional and otherwise. Know that our time on Earth is short and it is not so much what we do in Life but how we do it that defines a person. May God give all of you the strength to recognize this and know he led a good life and was a positive effect to the Profession. - Posted by: Rick Dolenuck (Co-worker) on: Nov 28, 2020

  • Fairwell to a great doctor and good friend as you make your way into heaven. Dr Bedi was our doctor from the time he established his practice in our community of Lockport, he has looked after us and our children for many decades, not only as a doctor, but as a good friend, always taking the time to chat with us about our lives. As we travel, he would give us our vaccines needed and would also give us his personal cell phone number and home phone number in case we ran into trouble in another country. Such a caring and wonderful man, we will miss him dearly. Sincere condolences to the Bedi family in the loss of a amazing person. Rest in peace my friend. - Posted by: Earl & Agnes Miller (Patient & friend ) on: Nov 28, 2020

  • Sincere condolences go out to the family! Dr Bedi was such a kind man. His smile reflected what was in his heart - a deep love for helping those in need. I will never forget his compassionate care for my daughter who had just had her baby. Not everyone can say that about a doctor. RIP dear sir. You have made the world a better place by your presence. - Posted by: Linda Gillis (former patient) on: Nov 28, 2020
