Ruth Ellen Barr (nee Dewart) passed away at the Glenboro Health Care Center on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at the age of 77 years. Ruth was the eldest of three children for William (Bill) and Laura Dewart of Stockton, MB. At 29 years of age her mother suffered a debilitating stroke with three young children, living on a rural farm near Stockton. Even with this tragedy in those years, the family managed to form a strong bond and continue on with much help from friends, family and community. The two sisters took over many of the household duties to help their mom and dad in the early years. Life in a small, tight knit community helped support the family. Growing up and into adulthood, sports like softball, golf and curling were highlights in Ruth's life, along with spending lots of time with family and friends. She also enjoyed walking, painting and drawing, crossword puzzles, cooking and baking. Ruth was predeceased by her parents Bill and Laura Dewart, as well as an infant daughter, Sherri-Lee. Leaving to mourn Ruth's passing is her husband of 57 years, Don Barr, 4 children Darrell (Alice) of Calgary, AB, Ed (Jen) of Winnipeg, MB, Charlene (Dale) Henderson of Blumenort, MB and Crystal (Cory) Lawson of Brandon, MB; grandchildren Asia, Alycia and Hanna Oleson (Charlene); Dorian, Torin and Hailee Lawson; step grandson Mathew (Amanda) Henderson and step-great grandchildren Brady and Beckett Henderson. Ruth is also survived by her sister Dorothy (Brian) Granger of Nesbitt, MB, brother Jim (Claudette) Dewart of St. Pierre, MB along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and community. A Family Graveside Service was held on Friday, December 11, 2020 at the Glenboro Cemetery with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Memorial donations can be made in Ruth's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5, or to the Glenboro & Area Foundation, (Health Care Designation,) Box 147, Glenboro, MB, R0K 0X0.
