YOUNG: It was one year ago, that we said goodbye to Douglas Albert Young in Brandon, MB, after an extended illness, on Thursday, December 12, 2019. Doug is lovingly remembered by his beloved daughters, Lisa (Rob) Huston and Jody (Randy) Spencer and his grandchildren, Sam, Sydney, Alexis, Lainy and Slade. Doug is also missed and forever remembered by his cherished aunts Betty Broughton and Marie Fulcher, along with numerous cousins and dear friends. Doug was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth (Liz) and his mother, Dorothy. Born in Brandon in 1943, Doug was an only child who grew up in Rapid City, MB surrounded by his large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He attended Brandon University where he received his Teacher's Certificate and went on to enjoy a career as an educator in many schools throughout Manitoba. He was an avid political science aficionado and enjoyed debating world politics with those who shared that same passion. His lifelong love of music was apparent in everything he did and said and many of his cousins attribute their knowledge of rock 'n roll music to him. At the time of his death he owned over 600 vinyl albums ranging from many music genres. This love of music was something he passed along to his daughters and grandchildren who cherish memories of him playing guitar while listening to some of the great legends. In keeping with Doug's wishes, there was no memorial service. His children and grandchildren look forward to non-Covid times when they can celebrate the life of their beloved Dad and Grandpa.

A lifetime of wonderful memories of the Fulcher cousins, of Rapid City, of family gatherings and family holidays, of Thanksgivings and Christmas', Birthdays and Weddings, and Funerals, and they always included Doug. Of the cousins, Doug was the first, the oldest, and always had a leadership position - even though I am sure he did not want it. Always a touchstone to Rapid City, the big brother I never had. Gone before his time. - Posted by: Elliott Dary (Cousin) on: Dec 19, 2020

I miss our jams and conversations about politics, music, history. Doug's love and pride in his family were always apparent. Gone too soon. - Posted by: Glen Gatin (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2020
