LESLEY (BARBARA) BOYD

At 74 years old, Lesley passed away with family by her side on December 2, 2020.
She was born on July 8, 1946, in Winnipeg, to Everett and Marguerite Dilts and was the eldest of five children. She grew up in St. James and always thought of it as home;
raising her own children there and eventually retiring in a beautiful little suite on Portage Avenue. Trips to Sargent Sundae were a tradition and Lesley's beloved black lab, Magic, would get a cone too (her pets were always spoiled!). She had a knack for numbers, which led to a career in banking, but it was her personal connection with clients that made her a favourite at the Royal Bank. Lesley loved music; she listened to good old rock and roll with the tunes blaring and the windows rolled down. She had a lovely voice and spent her teenage years singing in a band. Lesley lived in the city but her heart was at the lake, Minaki as a child, Lac du Bonnet with her sister and Clear Lake with her children. She was happy sitting on the dock enjoying the sun or spending the night telling tales and cracking jokes. Lesley loved to celebrate birthdays and holidays. Christmas was her favourite time of year, her tree would be up in November and every phone call would start with, "What would the kids like from Grammie?". In her later years, Lesley loved to be at home cooking, crocheting and reading Nora Roberts. She had a tenacious spirit and faced adversity with optimism and kindness. She battled and won against cancer, a heart condition and a stroke. She was a cat with at least nine lives and was profoundly grateful for the time she had with her loved ones - her family, friends, pets and neighbours. They were her center, her everything. We will miss her kind heart, generous nature, beautiful smile and infectious laugh and try our best to honour her spirit by living fiercely and loving unconditionally.
She will be forever loved and missed by her children, Carrie and Derek (Kristel); sisters, Pat (Bill), Marilyn (Chuck); brother Dwight (Nancy); sister-in-law Diane; and five grandchildren, Jordan, Kate, Hudson, Rohen, and Laina. Lesley was preceded in death by her parents, Everett and Marguerite; and her brother, Rhett.
A celebration of Lesley's life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honour to CancerCare Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (12 entries)

  • Carrie and Derek I am so sorry I just saw this. Please call me. - Posted by: Susan Harris (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2023

  • Leslie was my rock-always there when I needed her. She always made me laugh! I have moved so many times and lost contact with her several years ago. We worked for the bank at McPhillips Street Station Casino in Winnipeg and together we got into so much mischief with our practical jokes on each other and co-workers! Lately I have been trying to contact her and I am so sorry she has gone. She took me to her sister's place on the lake with Magic and Sheba(our dogs)and we had a bear that made my dog go crazy because it was outside my window and thought it was Leslie snoring, lol. It really was a bear! She is the only person in the world that was allowed to call me Mare. Derek I don't think that you remember me but I loved the way you looked out for your mom! Blessings - Posted by: Marilyn Reynolds (friend) on: Jan 13, 2022

  • Lesley has been on my mind as of late, mainly because I called my Mom for her Nuts 'N Bolts recipe - something that Lesley used to do every year!! I didn't know that today is 1 year since her passing and it's funny how I came here today! I was truly saddened by her passing, and I am thankful for the fond memories and bond that we developed. I wish you all the best, hope you are all healthy, safe and happy - Posted by: Jenn Smith (Neighbor) on: Dec 02, 2021

  • Leslie had a good wit and sense of humour. Not only did she have a voice for rock and roll but she also sung in a church choir. Sing with the angels Leslie. Luv Ivan - Posted by: Ivan Jones (Friend from teenage years. Later met up with her at Royal Bank as customer.) on: Dec 18, 2020

  • Carrie, Derek and families, I am so sorry to read this. I was just thinking about your Mom the other day wondering how she was doing and when I would get the call for my nuts and bolts recipe. Having had you guys as neighbors for several years gave me the opportunity to get to know all of you. Your Mom was an amazing woman with a fighting spirit and a wonderful sense of humor. The world certainly has lost a very bright star and will seem a little less bright with her gone. - Posted by: Bernie Smith (Former neighbor/friend) on: Dec 14, 2020

Thinking of you all and sending you all our love during this incredibly difficult time. • I am saddened to hear of Lesley's passing. Lesley insisted us boys who spent any time at her house call her Mom. Mom was one of the toughest ladies I have ever met, with the biggest heart of gold. She treated every one of us kids like we were her own. I will always remember the "family" trips to the lake in the summer, her sense of humour, and her love for very loud rock and roll. My love to Derek, Carrie and family, she will be sorely missed. - Posted by: Rob Nykolaishen (Friend) on: Dec 12, 2020
