MARY SHORTING SINCLAIR

Peacefully on December 23, 2020, our mother, Mary, went to be with her Lord and Saviour.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Rosaleen Sanderson; special cousin, Marie Baker. In her passing, she leaves to mourn her daughters, Maryjane (Wesley) Sinclair, Beverly (Garnet) Sinclair, Elenor Shorting and Delores (Derrick) Monkman; her sons, Clifford (Darlene), Hector (Rose), Norman (Izabele) and Albert (Lucy) Shorting; adopted daughter, Rita Oigg (Jackhead); adopted sons, Alvin Thompson (Fairford) and Jerry Sumner (Little Saskatchewan); daughters-in-law, Violet and Linda Shorting; special friends, Edith Krippeler and Joanne Rawluk; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Jemima Sanderson (1976); her stepdad, Donald Sanderson (1976); her first husband, Daniel Shorting (March 21, 1988) and her second husband whom she married in 1993, William Sinclair (July 14, 2004); her infant daughter, Josephine; her sons, George Shorting (January 9, 1999) and Louis Shorting (August 5, 2000); her grandchildren, Aaron Shorting, Joseph Sinclair (1995), Clay Shorting (1994), Sheila McLean (2013), Cyrus Shorting (2018), Jason Shorting (2008), Pamela Anderson (2020) and Belinda Morin (2012); her sisters, Louisa McLean, Alice Winnifred Thompson and Irma Sanderson; brothers, John and David Sanderson; daughter-in-law, Lorraine Shorting (nee Spence) (2013): and her brother-in-law, Peter Sinclair (December 5, 1995).
Our mom had a total of 41 grandchildren, 109 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She never knew her real father, she was raised by her grandparents, Henry and Christina. Her grandfather gave her the nickname 'Min-dim-moo-ay,' which means 'Old Lady.' She would often talk about working in the bush, cutting cordwood, living in the bush, digging seneca root, drying meat and fish. She never complained. Mom was a hard working, loving mom, who got up every morning to cook for us; before school, at lunch and supper, until we were old enough to do it ourselves. She raised ten of us, six boys and four girls. She also raised her grandchildren, Sheila, Jason, Pamela, Grant and Daniel. Mom also fostered a few children that called her 'mom'. She also looked after her brother-in-law, Peter Sinclair, from a young age until his passing in 1995.
Mom was a born again Christian who loved going to church and serving the Lord. She learned how to drive a vehicle after our dad got sick, she became very independent, travelling to tent meetings and church. Mom was well respected wherever she went, she was the matriarch of not just our family, but our community and the surrounding communities as well. People would come to see her for prayers and advice. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. We would like to thank the Eriksdale Hospital staff for their care of our mother.
Due to current Covid restrictions, we will have a viewing at the River of Life Church in Little Saskatchewan on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 for whoever would like to come pay their respects. Viewing will be restricted to five people at a time, each person must wear a mask at all times and follow social distancing guidelines.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at the River of Life Church, Little Saskatchewan, Manitoba, with Pastor Pat Anderson officiating. Interment will follow at the Little Saskatchewan Cemetery.

  • She was so happy fed us her homemade bread when it was done. My mother in law was there when I was growing up and telling their stories. - Posted by: Vernon Traverse (Granny) on: Dec 31, 2020
