FREDA KORNBERGER

On the morning of Christmas Eve, December 24, 2020, at Concordia Place, Freda Kornberger took her last breath and went to her Heavenly home at the age of 97.
Freda was born January 30, 1923 in Russia and came to Canada with her parents when she was four years old in 1927. They went to Morris first, where her brother Albert was born, then moved to Beausejour and finally settled in Tyndall, where her father was the town and area Blacksmith for many years. As a young girl, mom worked with her father in the shop and later moved to Winnipeg to be a nanny. She was so loved, that the children visited her for years later.
She married Adam Kornberger in 1944 and had a daughter, Sharon. Life became very hard due to his lengthy illness and he passed away December, 1971. Mom was strong willed and had a "I can do it myself" kind of attitude, even in the nursing home she was known to be feisty and strong. After cleaning homes and offices, she became a hair stylist at Eaton's for over 27 years. She was loved by many customers, who kept in touch with her for years. After retirement, she was able to attend Seniors Day and Work Day at Calvary Temple, her home church. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
Mom also loved to knit scarfs, mittens and afghans, always keeping her hands busy. She loved flowers and always had her balcony filled with them, where she would sit for hours and do her word search. She treasured coming out to our home at the farm and helping in the garden, being outdoors and enjoying the beauty of nature made her feel closer to God. Mom was included in most of our family road trips to the east coast, west coast and California - she was always up for an adventure. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
As her dementia developed she went to live at Concordia Place in 2017. She enjoyed spending time outdoors in the courtyard. Due to Covid-19, our visits were sadly limited for months which was extremely difficult. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sharon and son-in-law Ed Bredin. Grandson Glenn (Connie) Bredin and great-grandchildren, Brett and Nicole. Granddaughter Carolyn (Ted) Grewe and great-grandchildren, Adam and Ashley and granddaughter Cheryl (Grandma's little buddy).
We sincerely thank the third-floor staff of Concordia Place for all the love and care they gave to mom and many thanks to Pastor Logan for his visits to mom over the years.
Due to Covid-19, no service will take place at this time, but a graveside service will be held in the summer.

"I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

2 Timothy 4:7
