PETER H. TOEWS
Peter H. Toews, aged 95, of Altona, MB passed away suddenly on December 25, 2020, at Altona Memorial Health Centre.
He is survived by eight children, Albert (Evelyn), Ron (Pauline), Leona (John), Jenice (Brian), Grace (Don), Melvin (Peggy), Alfred (Cyndie), and Connie. Also numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, three brothers and two brothers-in-law. He was predeceased by his wife Eva (Zacharias), his daughter and her husband Verna (Abe), his parents and eight siblings.
Peter was born in Eigenhof, MB to Peter and Anna Toews on June 1, 1925. He got his limited education in Eigenhof yet managed to excel in the work force through his hard work and ingenuity. On October 28, 1945 Peter married the love of his life Eva Zacharias. They were blessed with nine children and reached the milestone of celebrating their 75th wedding anniversary on October 28, 2020.
Peter had a variety of work experience beginning as a farmhand, to a mechanic, a Watkins Salesman, Kehler Feed Service, Derksen & Fonger Const. and finally a welder at Conquest Manufacturing where he retired at age 70.
Peter had a zeal for life. He got his motorcycle licence at the age of 65 and enjoyed bike rides with his brothers and brother-in law. He loved to tell stories of his past so he never really met a stranger. He enjoyed having coffee with his buddies. He had a compassionate heart to support many orphans in other countries. He also loved his vehicles, especially his '36 Ford which could do amazing feats. His last vehicle was a Dodge Caravan which he turned into a handy van for his youngest daughter Connie who was born with spina bifida. When he gave up his keys for the van he was only sad for a short time because he purchased a scooter with a pretty good clip to it which he used to faithfully visit Eva, first at the hospital then at Eastview until she passed away December 1, 2020.
Peter was already struggling with some health issues. He had worn a nito patch for many years and suffered a mild heart attack August 29 and had a fall resulting in a compressed fracture on September 29, yet his famous quote was "I'm the healthiest man alive". Peter was admitted to the Altona Memorial Health Centre on December 24 and went to his eternal rest on December 25.
