ANNA THIESSEN

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my mother Anna Thiessen at Concordia Place.
She is survived by son Erwin; and niece Amaile Hermes.
Anna was predeceased by her parents, Heinrich and Helena; brothers, Jacob, Henry (Margarete); and sister Helen.
Mother was born November 8, 1917 in Gnadenthal Matolschna, Ukraine. Anna went on to teach kindergarten in Poland until the war changed things.
Mother immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1948 with her young son. She lived in Elm Creek where she ran the teacherage, where the teachers boarded, which she really enjoyed. She also worked at Fred Skinners Red & White Store. When the teacherage closed, she ended up moving to Falcon Lake where she worked at the motel for numerous years. Upon retirement, Anna worked at the Falcon Lake Golf Course for two years.
In her retirement, she enjoyed the nature around her. Anna enjoyed a flower garden and feeding her family of wildlife: Rudy the deer; two foxes who liked her front lawn for winter; the crows; and the odd bear who would sneak into town. She always had a cat to keep her company.
I would like to thank Shirley Moskal (who was like a daughter to my mother) and family for all these years and Rose Penner, her neighbour from the days at Falcon Lake, for visiting my mother when she ended up in the care home.
I would also like to thank all the staff on the third floor at Concordia Place for the love and care they gave my mother.
Cremation has taken place and condolences for family may be left at www.alternacremation.ca.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • We're so sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. Anne was always so nice to me and we always shared a few good jokes. Anne worked hard during her years at Falcon, now she can rest in peace. Take care Erv, and all the best to you. - Posted by: Edna Smorong (old friend) on: Jan 22, 2021

  • Just wanted to say that I remember Anne (as we knew her) as a very kind and generous lady. We worked together for a short period of time, mainly summers and holiday work at the Lake. I think we felt we shared some heritage and had a special relationship, as a result of that. I did not see her or connect with her after my university years, but I did not forget her. She gave me a china cup and saucer for my birthday, and I still cherish it. My condolences to the family. • Dear Erwin, we wish to express our deepest sympathy to you. We remember your Mom so fondly. When our oldest daughters Sherry and Janice, would stop in for a visit she would scoop them up onto her knee for a cuddle no matter how busy she was at the time. Kind, kind, lady and we still think of her and you often. - Posted by: Pat and Paul Alexiuk (Family friends from Elm Creek) on: Jan 12, 2021
