PORTER: Our hearts are heavy and it is with great sadness that the family of Christopher David Porter announces his passing on January 19, 2021 in Virden, Manitoba at the age of 42. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Allan and Cheryl Porter and his brother, Jason and by his partner, his shining light, Kim Watters and stepdaughters Ashley and Michelle. He will also be remembered with love by his Grandfather, Beverly Jason Porter, his many aunts and uncles, cousins and friends in many parts of the country. Chris was predeceased by his Grandmothers, Lorna Bernice Porter and Bridget Zita Flood and by his Grandfather, Patrick Francis Flood. A beautiful Funeral Service was held Monday, January 24, 2021 at Oxford Assembly in Virden with Pastor Wayne Unger officiating. Chris was interred in Virden Cemetery. The service was live-streamed on U-tube on Oxford Assembly's site and is still there today. He was born on March 17, 1978 in Brandon, Manitoba. He was our St. Paddy's baby and later in life, loved to celebrate that. Due to his father's employment with the RCMP, Chris lived in many places. He lived in Minnedosa, Gillam, Virden, and Reston and attended school in those communities; he also lived in Brandon, Winnipeg and Shilo. His interests were hunting, fishing, snowboarding, and his motorcycle. Throughout his school years he participated in Jazz, Band, choir and theatre. At the age of 12, Chris became involved with the Army Cadets, the 12 Manitoba Dragoons, 2528 Royal Canadian Artillery Cadets. He spent many hours preparing and enjoying his work and play with the cadet corp. Chris worked from the age of 14 and had many jobs before he followed his heart and joined the military. His career in the Canadian Armed Forces PPCLI was from Aug. 2001 to Aug. 2010. Chris was deployed to Bosnia on a peacekeeping mission where he sustained a severe back injury. Due to the severity of that injury, he struggled for the past 20 years with chronic pain and medical interventions. With his passing we are comforted with knowing that Chris is now free from pain and at peace.

"Though we need
to weep your loss,
you dwell in that safe place in our hearts
where no storm or night
or pain can reach you."
~John O'Donohue
