Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySOMERS: David Allen Somers, July 9, 1948-February 21, 2021. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Somers after a hard fought, year long battle with lung cancer. Dave was born in Deloraine, MB, to Frank and Anna Somers. As a young man, he spread his wings and made his way west to Alberta where he got a job with the Calgary Stampede Ranch. He tried his hand at farming before entering into police enforcement training in Lethbridge. After completing his training, he returned to where his parents were living in Brandon and joined the Brandon City Police in 1982. Dave was a proud member, especially enjoying his involvement in Crime Stoppers and Victim Services, until his retirement in 2006. He fully loved his retirement, spending most winters in southern Texas riding his Harley through the hills and up the coast with his many new winter-Texan friends. He would spend summers riding coast to coast across Canada visiting friends and family along the way. Dave passed in Leduc Hospital after moving to Alberta to spend time with his son's family for his final months. He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his son Dana, daughter-in-law Carmen, grandkids Anna and Evan, stepson Jason Buhler, and stepdaughter Devra Buhler. Dave will be remembered as a caring father and grandpa, and as a kind and fair man, always willing to help out a friend. He will be dearly missed. Thank you to all of his friends, doctors and hospital staff who helped him through these last few months. Those who wish to, may honour his memory by donating to the Canadian Cancer Society or CancerCare Manitoba.
