RICHARD GRANT HEPPNER
On March 3, 2021, at 12:10 a.m. at the age of 57 years, Richard Grant Heppner passed away, after living with multiple sclerosis for the last 23 years. He succumbed to MS complications, at his residence at Eastview Place personal care home in Altona, after a brief stay at the Altona Hospital.
Rick was predeceased by his beloved father Erdman (Ed) Heppner November 27, 2020, and by his grandma Helen Loewen in 2013.
He leaves to mourn his passing his mother Diane Heppner, his brother Wayne Heppner of Altona, his sister Debi (Jack) Schroeder and their three children, Sami, Cassie, and Zach of Morris, his brother Ken Heppner of Morris, and his brother Gerry Heppner and spouse Tammy Brayfogal of Morris and their children, Jack and Jordan.
Rick grew up in a construction family and even after MS robbed him of his mobility he was forever talking about going back to work in Winnipeg. One thing he never lost was his sense of humour even when there wasn't much to find humour in, living with the daily struggles of MS. He relished the friendships he had, and made more whenever he could at Eastview Place. Even with his disabilities, his friends at the care home did their best to get him out to the local fishing pond, and even took him out in the special handicap bike at Eastview Place for a beer at the local tavern which he never forgot. His weekly adventures at the care home entailed bingo with mom and many cups of coffee with friends and family. He will be missed by so many, he truly was one of a kind.
A private funeral service was held and Rick was laid to rest within a few close feet of his dad at the Hochstadt Cemetery.
Donations in memory of Rick may be made to the MS Society of Manitoba or to Eastview Place Activity Programs in Altona.
We would like to thank Dr. Winning and Dr. Basta, as well as the nurses and staff at Eastview Place and the Altona Hospital for their wonderful care of Rick.
