CATHY LYNN GATES
January 21, 1962 - March 17, 2021
Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her mother Elizabeth; her siblings, Larry (Elaine), Grant (Lina), Bonnie, Betty Ann (Roger), Nancy, Bradley (Lynn) and Lynda (Chris); as well as aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews; and especially her two fur babies, Barzik and Pip.
Cathy was a private person with a gentle soul and a big heart, always ready to help others. Cathy's love for animals led her to a rewarding career at the Tuxedo Animal Hospital where she will be dearly missed by her co-workers and clients. When not hard at work, she enjoyed reading and various hobbies as well as spending time visiting her Mom and family on the weekends in Treherne, MB.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Buhler Cancer Centre, Victoria Hospital and Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care ward.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or to Winnipeg Humane Society.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A Celebration of Life with family will take place at a later date.

I had the pleasure of working with Cathy in the display department at The Bay in the mid 80's. We had so much fun and lots of laughs together and got to be good friends. I hadn't seen Cathy in many years (living out of Canada) but remember our shenanigans and her very fondly. My deepest condolences to her family. We have all missed Cathy so very much, including many clients who have expressed how they loved seeing her when they came to Tuxedo Animal Hospital. She was a very important person. Her dedication to her job was unshakable. She truly cared about animals and strove to make sure they were taken care of. I especially enjoyed our evening shifts together when we'd get to visit at the end of the day. Her loss has been felt by all of us. With sympathy to her family. - Posted by: Pat Dorval (Co-worker) on: Mar 26, 2021

I was very sad to read about Cathy’s passing. After high school we were both living in Winnipeg and I often talked Cathy into being my subject for various assignments while I was in photography school at Red River. She was working at The Bay then and had access to props and all kinds of cool stuff from the window display closets. She was a willing model and we had lots of laughs with the mannequins. I have some great memories of those days, her little apartment and wandering the shops in Osborne Village. I’m sorry we lost touch when I moved away. My heartfelt sympathies go out to her family & friends. She will be forever smiling in my memories. - Posted by: Cheryl (Leslie) Stewart (Friend from high school ) on: Mar 24, 2021

I am so sorry to hear about Cathy's passing. I first met her many years ago when she designed displays at the Bay with a mutual friend, and I was struck then by her sense of style and gentle humour. It was so great to meet her again when I brought Mac and Tosh to Tuxedo. She was clearly in her element, and over the years I came to understand just how wonderful she really was, as her kindness, compassion and caring shone through. May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. - Posted by: Joan Stephens (Friend, client at Tuxedo Animal Hospital) on: Mar 24, 2021

I had the pleasure of working with Cathy at Tuxedo Animal Hospital for over 10 years. During that time we became close and I am honored to call her a friend. We shared a lot during the time we worked together and I am grateful to have so many wonderful memories. Cathy’s work ethic and compassion was unparalleled. Her love for her cats, and all animals, was evident in everything she did. She looked after my cat sometimes and she always took such good care of him, I know he loved her too. She will be sadly missed but I am comforted knowing that she has been reunited with her babies Crombie, Bic, Wicius and Zoe. I love you Cathy and I will miss you. - Posted by: Melissa (Friend and coworker ) on: Mar 23, 2021

I am so very saddened to hear the news of Cathy's passing. She was absolutely an amazing person to deal with at Tuxedo Animal Hospital. Always so very caring and seemed genuinely concerned with everyone and their pets. She was ALWAYS pleasant and I really missed seeing her sitting at that desk. My thoughts are with all her family and friends and fur babies. - Posted by: Eva Martel (Client at Tuxedo Animal Hospital) on: Mar 22, 2021

I had the pleasure of working with Cathy over the years. She will be missed by all who knew her. She always had cute stories to tell about her fur babies. She genuinely cared a great deal for the animals and clients that came through our doors. I'm sure she is now reunited and cuddling with her cats Alowicious, Bic, and Zoe while watching her favourite actor Keanu Reeves. Rest In Peace Cathy❤️ - Posted by: Leigh Weatherburn (Co-worker) on: Mar 21, 2021

Cathy was one of the best employees Tuxedo has had. Always compassionate, kind and concerned for any animals well being. She put thought into everything she did and strived to have everything done right. I will miss our chats on our lunches together and sharing cute cat videos. I haven't been able to bring myself to look back at our messages together, knowing there won't be anymore. If there is one thing that could bring comfort, it is knowing she's finally with the rest of her fur family she missed dearly. - Posted by: Alexis (Coworker and friend) on: Mar 20, 2021

We are so saddened to hear of Cathy's passing. Cathy was the first person we encountered at Tuxedo Animal Hospital when we brought in our 2 kittens to be spayed/neutered. She was so sweet. Her love of animals was so evident as she made our cats and us feel so cared for, and talked about her own pets. What a huge loss to all. - Posted by: June Pospishell and Dan McGibney (client at Tuxedo Animal Hospital) on: Mar 20, 2021
