Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBISHENDEN: Douglas Lewis Bishenden, June 6, 1930-March 16, 2021. In his 91st year, passed away peacefully in his own bed with his wife by his side. Doug is survived by his wife, Margaret of a 69 year marriage, and their children, Brian (Lori), their children Stephanie (Chad) and Tyler; Warren (Elizabeth), their children Rose, Jack, Stuart; Val (Gord MacKay) and their children Andrew (Lisa) and Christine; and 6 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sister Elaine Capper (Al), nieces Nancy and Kelly (Chad); brother-in-law Ron Brown (Elinor); niece Laura (Mark) and nephew Greg Brown (Brenda). Doug started his career as a mail clerk with Swift Foods in Toronto at the age of aprox 18. From there he began working with cattle for the Stock Yards. He then moved to Canadian Dressed Meats where he became a cattle buyer. Then, in Kitchener, he became the head cattle buyer for Burns Meats. Unfortunately that plant closed, so they transferred to the Burns Meats location in Brandon in 1985 where he later retired. They relocated to Winnipeg after Doug had his stroke in 1998. They then moved to Lindenwood Manor in 2012. Doug grew up with the love of his life, Margaret, and they built their first home in Mississauga, Ontario, where they had their family. They both enjoyed curling and traveling. Doug was an avid golfer as well and would often play more than one game a day. Doug was also a huge hockey fan and played, coached and cheered on the Jets. We would like to thank all the staff at Lindenwood Manor for all their help and kindness. Mom and Dad really feel like they belong to an extended family there. Margaret would like to thank their staff and friends for all of your support. There will be a private family gathering at a later date in Ontario.

My condolences to you Mrs. Bishenden, as well to Brian and family, Warren and family & Val and family. I came across Mr. Bishenden's memoriam today. Brian and I were best friends through highschool. Spent a lot of time at the Bishenden household on Hickory In Mississauga. Mr. Bishenden coached Brian and I in a men's league a few years out of high school, made up of high school friends and our brothers. Many fond memories of a good man. - Posted by: Kip Johnston (Friend of son Brian) on: Jul 10, 2021

Dear Marg, Val, Gord, Christine and Andrew, We are saddened about the passing of Doug but happy that he was able to live such a long and rich life with a loving family. Marg and Doug moved into the house beside us in South Winnipeg in 1998 the same year our son Curtis was born. Being the same age as our parents, it was like having a set of parent & grandparents suddenly enter our lives. We would often visit with Marg tending to the flower garden and Doug cruising around in his electric chair or sitting in the garage. Doug always had a kind word and quick wit with our boys and could tell really great stories from the past. We all have really great memories now of a really great man. Rest in peace Doug. With love from the Brady’s. - Posted by: Vincent Brady (Neighbor ) on: Apr 02, 2021
