GARBUTT: The family of Sandra Minnie Garbutt announce her passing on April 13th, 2021. Sandra was predeceased by her husband Frank, her parents Fred and Grace Stephens, in-laws Addison and Elma Garbutt, and granddaughter Toby. Sandra was born on August 24th, 1939. She was the only child of Fred and Grace (Mitchell) Stephens and lived her early life in the Moore Park area. Sandra began her education at Norman School and later attended at Moore Park. She worked in Brandon until she met and married Frank on October 17th, 1959 in Moore Park following a memorable snowstorm. Together they farmed near Rapid City and raised four sons. Sandra spent a great deal of time with the boys' sports, transporting them along with teammates and equipment to various events, cheering them on, and doing her share at the canteen. She helped out in the community whenever she was called upon. Once the boys were grown, she had a few part-time jobs and particularly enjoyed demonstrating various products in Brandon grocery stores. Many people will remember Sandra as the friendly face offering them a free sample with a friendly chat. She was a real people person who loved to meet and talk to someone new. Together with Dad, Mom enjoyed retirement and joined the Rapid City Seniors' Centre where they enjoyed all the activities, especially playing cards and going bowling with the gang. They moved to Victoria Landing in Brandon in 2019 with Frank passing on shortly afterwards. She became an active participant in the various activities at Victoria Landing, making new friends while playing cards or bingo. She was delighted to win a silver medal in the senior Olympics held there. Her favorite pastime was reading if there wasn't curling to watch. She was a good listener and always had time to have a chat, share a smile, or even shed sympathetic tears. Mom was always there for family. She moved from watching her children's to her grandchildren's activities. She was a devoted wife, loving mom, caring mother-in-law, proud grandmother and great-grandmother, and a sincere friend. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her 4 sons and families including 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: son Steve (Joan), Lizann (Steve Grant), and great-grandchild Lara; Robyn (Travis Lund) and great grandchild Cooper; and Trevor; son Pete (Sharon), Alyssa (Mark Girard) and great grandchildren Brenna, Lilly, and Zoey; Jill; and Wade (Katie), and great grandchild Emslie; son Barry (Nicole), Noah, Ben, Dylan, and Ryder; son Gord (Susan Hall), Tyler, Brendan, Kiersten, and Aiden. She also had many cousins on the Stephens and Mitchell side of the family. A private service was held at Rapid City Cemetery with Barb Jardine officiating. We hope to have a celebration of Mom's life when we can gather again.
