VAN SCHEPDAEL: Etienne Victor Karl "Steve" Van Schepdael. Passed away at the Baldur Transitional Unit, Baldur, MB, on Sunday, May 2, 2021 at the age of 86 years, Etienne Victor Karl "Steve" Van Schepdael, of Belmont, MB. Steve leaves to mourn his passing his eight children Anita Van Schepdael of Alonsa, MB, Robert of Winnipeg, MB, Mark of Winnipeg, MB, Donna Mahdi of Winnipeg, MB, Joanne (Darren) Struss of Killarney, MB, Vivian Van Schepdael of Edmonton, AB, Virginia Van Schepdael of Brandon, MB, Patricia Van Schepdael of Vancouver, BC and by numerous grandchildren and step children. He is also survived by his brother Joe (Mary-Lou) of Selkirk, MB, sisters Godelieve Bennet of St. Claude, MB, Emily Van de Bennet of Lethbridge, AB, numerous nieces and nephews and by good friends Brian and Sheila Trotter of Belmont, MB. Steve was predeceased by his first wife Cecile (nee Schamp), partner Lauretta Hardy, parents Emile and Josephine Van Schepdael, sisters Rita Dodds and Christianne Van Schepdael (1941) and by brothers-in-law Frank Bennet, Joe Van de Bennet and Jack Dodds. Steve was born in Onze-Lieve-Vrouw-Lombeek Brabant, Belgium on November 25, 1934. He immigrated to Canada in 1953 and worked in various parts of Manitoba. In 1960 he purchased land near Belmont, MB and began a life long career of farming. During early years of farming he was quite involved with curling. Steve was a unique welder and handyman and could build almost anything. After retiring from farming, he moved into Belmont and was employed with the R.M. of Strathcona operating Strathcona Memorial Park at Pelican Lake. He loved to entertain and enjoyed music as well as dancing. A Family Graveside Service was held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at the Glenboro Cemetery with Sharon Hamilton officiating. Friends that so desire, memorial donations may be made in Steve's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st St., Brandon, MB R7A 2W8 or to a charity of choice. The family would like to thank the staff of the Baldur Transitional Unit & the Killarney Tri-Lake Health Centre as well as the homecare staff for the wonderful care Steve received this past year.
