Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE YURCHAK
(nee FRIESEN)
Katherine "Kay" Yurchak, aged 102, of Eastview Place, Altona formerly of Manitou and Winker, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.
She is survived by her siblings Peter (Emily) Friesen, Dick Friesen, Helen Riha, and sister-in-law Elsie Friesen, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Mike Yurchak, her parents Diedrich and Katherine Friesen, three sisters, and three brothers.
Kay was born on September 4, 1918, and grew up in Halbstadt, Manitoba. As a young woman she held various jobs as a farm helper and housekeeper. Finding employment at the home of Dr. C. F. Wiebe in Winkler is where she met Mike Yurchak. They married in 1947, and settled on a farm in the Manitou area. In 1982, they purchased a home in Winkler and retired. After 41 years of marriage Mike passed away in 1988. Kay remained in her home in Winkler until July of 2003, when health issues caused her to move into Eastview Place in Altona. She resided there until her passing. Auntie Kay loved dogs, gardening, entertaining and feeding family and friends. She was always up for a visit and we will all miss her.
A private graveside service was held at the Hillside Cemetery in Morden, MB.
