JANICE HELEN BERENS

Suddenly and unexpectedly, it is with deep regret and sadness we announce the death of Janice Helen Berens who passed away June 16, 2021, at St. Boniface Hospital.
Janice was born in St. Boniface Hospital on July 29, 1961. She had a passion for the neighbourhood she lived in as well as the people living there. She has lived in the Winnipeg West End almost her entire life.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Kenneth Berens, and her three children: Harley, London and Layne Berens; father, Michael Chambers. Janice was predeceased by her mother Helen.
She worked at the H&R Block Tax office on Portage and Home Street where she was the office manager and one of the most experienced tax professionals in Canada. She had another job at Gordon Bell High School as a community support liaison. She would put family as the most important aspect of her life though she was always a mom first.
There will be a funeral service June 29, 2021 where a small, closed gathering will take place at Wojciks Funeral Chapel on Main Street. It will be livestreamed and recorded on Facebook via her son's, Layne Berens, Facebook page. The presiding clergy is Reverend B. Brglez. Janice will be cremated, and her ashes will be buried next to her mothers in Balmoral Cemetery.
Special thanks to Monique Dupuis who she saw as a sister and to all the people who have been emotionally touched by her and learned from her wise words.

Janice will be dearly missed.

  • When moving to Winnipeg, Janice helped me do my taxes and I had a fun time talking to her. She seemed happy go lucky and I looked forward to seeing her every time tax season came along. I just found out that she passed and it shocked me. Thank you Janice for helping me over the past few years. I will never forget your cheery smile and good humour. - Posted by: Danny De Souza (Client) on: Apr 02, 2022

  • I’m so sorry for your great loss of Janice. I worked with her and every season I would check to see where she was teaching and follow her. She was the best teacher and was so knowledgeable and very patient. She would go out of her way to help anyone. She loved her job but her family always came first. She was so proud of all her kids. She will be greatly missed but definitely not forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, RIP my friend. - Posted by: Saskia Ferwerda (Co-worker) on: Jun 28, 2021

  • I have known Janice since high school at Gordon Bell. I will always remember her as being so kind and generous with her time and heart. We met up in our adult years with her working as a community liaison at GB our former alma mater and I at RaY we shared a mutual concern for a youth our programs had in common. I was privileged to know her ❤️ heart.. which was enormous. My condolences to her husband and her children. Gone to soon. You sure do not meet people like her everyday. • Sending my sincerest sympathies to Kenny, Harley, London, Layne, Mr C and Monique. I moved to Winnipeg when I was 10 and Janice lived 2 doors down. She marched over and introduced herself and we were inseparable for 7 years. We had so many incredible experiences growing up together and for that I am truly grateful. I wish I would have told her how much her friendship meant to me then. I am so heartbroken for her family and friends and wish that the beautiful memories you have will bring you some comfort. • This woman gave true definition to the meaning selfless. Everything she did was for her family both blood and chosen. If you were lucky enough to be one of her chosen you know exactly what I'm talking about. Janice taught me so much about life, logic, parenting.....even sarcasm. She definitely showed me how to use it appropriately. I never really took a hard look at our relationship, but this woman was like a second mother to me. I'll forever miss her. - Posted by: Christy Orr (Lifelong friend ) on: Jun 23, 2021
