Galvin, Carmen Daphne

GALVIN: Carmen Daphne (nee Wilkinson) was born on December 29, 1975 in Swan River and passed away on August 10, 2021 in Winnipeg. She lived in Swan River during her early preschool years and was adopted into the Wilkinson family in the summer of 1983 and quickly became one of the family's busy members. She loved camping, biking, playing with friends and cousins and board games of all kinds. She played ringette and softball, completed several years of 4-H and attended Knox Church Sunday School and junior choir. Carmen attended Linden Lanes School for grades 2 to 6 and then Vincent Massey High School. She graduated from the adult high school campus of ACC. She completed much of an undergraduate degree at Brandon University and then took Office Management at ACC. Her greatest achievement and deepest love was her children. She is survived by her children Courteney Webster (Abel Kramm) and grandchildren Avery and Rowen; Grayson Wilkinson; Kennedy Wilkinson; Tyson Galvin and his father Trent Galvin. Also surviving are her adoptive mother Darlene Wilkinson and siblings Jeremy Wilkinson (Stacey) and nieces Abigail-Lynn and Millicent, Krista Wilkinson (Michel Dion) Henri and Madeleine, Renee Harker (Don) and Ethan Fitzpatrick and Ember Harker. Also grieving are extended families Wilkinsons, Johnstons, Scotts, Galvins, Websters and Fagnans. Carmen was predeceased by her adoptive father Lynn Wilkinson. Carmen's birth family are Ojibway from the Pine Creek band and in recent years, Carmen had reconnected with several members. She had also been given the spirit name Onagoonce Badung (Star Dreamer) during a ceremony while she attended B.U. An elder from the Rolling River band will direct our family in including Ojibway cultural traditions in the service. Carmen loved deeply and had an extensive circle of staunch and loyal friends. The illness of drug addiction is insidious and devastating to the victim and all those who love them. Carmen fought hard but it was a battle she lost and she is gone from us much too young! A Memorial Reception will take place at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North, Brandon on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm with a time of reflection at 1:30 p.m. Please dress casual, and if you have a photo(s) of Carmen please bring along a copy for placement on the Memory Board for her family to cherish. For those not able to attend in person, the service will be webcast on Carmen's memorial page at www.memorieschapel.com. A private interment will take place at a later date at Johnston Cemetery, Oak Lake. Rather than floral tributes, we ask for donations to AFM, 3rd Floor-1031 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3G 0R8 or to your local Salvation Army, as these agencies provided support for Carmen many times over the years.
